What could this be?

Hi,

This morning I purchased a Canon 1100d kit from Argos, and I have just noticed that in picture mode during focusing in live view, there is a small but noticeable blue dot there and it disappears when the camera has focused...

But in video mode it is there all the time.

I'm going to take it back to the shop (Argos) tomorrow morning to get it replaced - but just wondered what it could be. I tried cleaning the lens but still no luck. I tried using my dust blower on the sensor with mirror-lock but still no luck.

Thanks.

When you say a blue dot, is is distinct and look 'digital', as opposed to blurry and like a bit of 'muck'

Have you checked the manual, is it something to do with the camera actually being in 'focusing' stage, if its there whilst focusing [and on video where focus will change constantly perhaps] but not when its actually focused?

Sounds like it could be a dead/dead or stuck pixel. Return it to Argos, I'm sure they'll be happy to replace.

Hi,

Yes I guess you can say it looks digital. It looks like a dead pixel although it's weird because as I said it disappears so can't be the screen so I reckon the sensor is faulty. Funny enough, second camera I've had to return to Argos :(.

Thanks.
