Yes
Slightly different from my post in OOF but what do you guys do when you can't be bothered to take photo's?

It feels like ages since I last played with the camera and just don't seem to be bothered today even though it's glorious sunshine outside.

For the Pro's what do you do, if you have a booking you can't just phone up and say I don't feel like it?

For the Am's if you haven't played with the camera in a while what gets you back out and with the camera?

Photograph something new. Whether it's a new subject, or new technique.

Failing that, just go about your day and do something different, but take your camera with you, if you wouldn't bother previously - you might end up seeing that trip to the shops in a new way and see photo opportunities you've passed X amount of times before, but never considered.

What keeps me going is the thought that today i might get that "perfect" - to me anyway - shot:D. Sometimes gets a bit wearing though:thinking:

I've never not been bothered, but there again I've always got a list of things to go and photograph, and it seems to be getting longer rather than shorter! It helps if you have a specific area of interest / interests - I do a lot of derelict buildings and also steam railways, so I'm never short of things to go and shoot, just the time!

Wow Ryan I thought it was only me :D I just don't bother it is simple and when the mood takes me I get out there again, try not to make it a chore, you don't have to get out there and shoot so wait until the mood takes you.

Always kites and cake here

This happens to me from time to time. I'm in one of those moods photographically at the moment tbh. I've found that the worst thing you can do is force it. You end up taking rubbish photos 'cause your heart's not in it, then you get disheartened because you think you're no good :bonk:

When you don't feel like taking photos, just don't. Usually for me, it doesn't take long before the bug comes back and you can't put the bloody camera down again lol :)

Do something else? I have other interests too, and often go weeks without using a camera.

Thanks peeps, I think with me at the mo it isn't as much not wanting to take photo's but not wanting to do anything!

Cosmix is on his way over so will find something, whether it's a couple of churches, Basingstoke Canal, need to get something done!

i'm still pretty new to photography so i have loads of ideas in my head, new techniques to try out, lenses that i think i might like to try.

although the ideas i have are normally beyond my capabilities, sometimes i surprise myself and produce a shot i'm proud of. i enjoy taking photos of family, particularly their kids and then giving them the pics to remember them.

the reason i got into photography is that after my mother died i realised that out of all the photographs we had of her in various places/times very few of them were what you would consider to be 'good'. i thought i could do better so that's what inspires me to get better and to try new things.

i get great satisfaction in giving friends pics of them with their partners or kids, knowing that in years to come they will still have them.

Sometimes I'll take the camera into work, or try using a lens I wouldn't normally use.

You could try signing up for project 365 or something similar - it might give you the impetus to carry a camera and use it :)

Or just to get you back in the swing of things, look on flickr for the popular photos and try and recreate them without looking at the exif. More technique thinking rather then creative but helps me sometimes to get into the groove again and makes me want to experiment a bit more. Same works with classic art.

Just a bit of fun though, I'd never promote anything I've done where I've knowingly ripped off someone elses ideas.

Easy one. When I really don't feel like getting up and shooting a wedding I remember how difficult it is to get quality bookings, how hard I have worked to get to that point on that day and how many people would give thier right arm to be doing what I am about to.

I think about the shot plan in front of me and get stuck in! :)

I buy something new. Just a cheapy job, like the Welders Glass ND thread, or bodge a lens-to-lens reversing ring from 2 screw-in filters, that sort of daft thing. Anything that'll just kick things a bit differently. It doesn't really even have to have a point! For me, in fact, the more pointless and silly the better, my catch-phrase being' I wonder if....!' :-)
I'm busy scanning B+W negs on a 40quid AIO with an inverted light-box over the scanning plate lol.

Prcecisely that. It's a hobby, not a chore. It's different if you're a pro, then you have to do it, same as there are days I don't want to go to work but have to.
If it's a hobby you shouldn't feel under pressure to do it.
