Yes
im off to a meeting today and looking to get a grant for a shop ( online ) i have my own ideas and they will but im wondering what do you look for in a online store
what is the most important thing to you

i will start with

Clean and Crisp

please add your comments thanks

The main things for me are:

  • Methods of payment clearly stated before having to proceed to checkout
  • Prices displayed being inclusive of VAT or both Net and Gross costs being clearly shown
  • Delivery Charges clearly stated
  • Delivery Times clearly stated
  • Stock levels being accurate
  • Easy to navigate
  • Product images and good descriptions/tech specs of the products
  • Returns policy being clearly stated
  • Landline Telephone number and store address

:)

As above. Also the website has to be well designed. No tacky logo's etc. If the design looked amateur it would set alarm bells ringing in my head that the site may not be trustworthy.

No dependence on JavaScript or plugins.

Spelling and grammar checked thoroughly.

i want it to be intuitive (sp?) i dont want to have to guess my way through the site

nice and clear with only the information needed

and not too slow or flashy as i might get bored on a slow connection.

this is one of there site's they have done

www.diasdesignerclothing.co.uk

so i am hoping it will look good lol

im mainly after thought's this is sort of research to me so i can tell them what i want in the site not what they think although i will be listening to them but the more idea's the better

Ah, one thing I forgot to mention; a good search function! Can't highlight the word "good" enough as there's nothing worse than a search feature that returns massive amounts of search because they have a 1% relevance - like HMR&C's website.

The DIAS website pretty much ticks all the boxes with only a few small niggles such as the menu on the left could perhaps stand out a little more, perhaps the background could be of a slight shade? The "View by Garments" title could do with being a little more bold maybe.

Nice and fast though and like how you can click the brands in the scrolling marquee :)

All of the points already made above.

Fast loading or I'll close the tab and look elsewhere.

Seems foolish of some sites not to offer next day delivery, sometimes you just neeeeeed something the next day.

did you get a grant to get a website or am i missing the jist? if so where? :)

There are only two rules of thumb..

#1 make sure customer can see what they are buying.. good clear pics.

#2 make it easy to buy.. minimum clicks... click to buy.... click to pay

I would add ...dont make your website browser or OS dependant... dont listen to anyone about majority of users.. You dont want fred blogs arriving at your website with a pocket full of money he cant spend just because he hasnt got the right browser or somehting ...

yes it is there own grant but for shops only if it is a normal website then they dont do it

it is then £50 a month for hosting but that includes all changes to the site ( not graphics) so any text or added features and all the SEO and also list on google shopping for you too

if you want a online shop let me know i will drop there details in a pm to you

also needs to be a buisness and be in a HU postcode which i know you are lol

this is why a proper company is doing this so i avoid all the hassle

anything i want they will do for free :D

yeah the info would be great, do you get the website if you stop paying the £50 a month and could you switch hosting?

if not it just sounds like a way to get people to buy their services @ 50pm :)

(not ****ing on bonfires btw)

:lol::lol:

not entirley sure if you can switch but it is a minimum 6 months

i would more than likley say you carnt

we have about 10,000 products or more to list so to us £50 a month with unlimited hosting and full SEO done for you is not a great amount considering

and pm on way to you

just for considerations sake contact some other web companies and see what they've got to say maybe

because for instance if you're paying £1000 for the site and using it for 3-5 years you're going to end up paying less anyhow and still have rights to the site rather than being kept on an infinite leash of £50pm

bearing in mind any half decent content management system should allow you the admin user to change the text without too much difficulty :)

if you do go for it and they're going to do seo/google ads etc for you I'd ask for some kind of guarantees on where you'll appear because £50pm for hosting and ads is steep imho and it seems they're charging it to get their money back on the "free" site

i'm not saying it's a bad idea to go with them but it doesn't sound as altruistic as you've made it sound :) and i'd hate in a year for you to be pulling your hair out because you've got a site you like that you can't take with you and the service they're providing isn't very good and the seo they're doing is pants....if that makes any sense?

it does all i can say is the system / shop there running is there own system

i would normally agree with you there , i will be poping in to hilton to ask there opinion of there service they have recived

if i do have to move the downside is you loose the site i will happily this would not be good

but i will know in 6 months lol

to be honest i understand a little of the technical side of things , and everything thing i asked there was a answer and not a stupid one they showed me with there sites they have built it is my dad that is paying so not my problem lol ( only kidding)

i know one of there staff and been friends for over 15 years so i trust her

just found out they did hilton's photographic website

i have secured the the deal yipeee

so we are going to mix the design of both sites listed but obviously to our own style

I prefer the Hiltonphoto site to the other one, quite considerably the more I compare them! I think the navigation stands out more and although it's a small point I think the first site looks a little flat whereas the hilton one has more depth, perhaps due to the rounded corners and the logo overlapping the main wrapper area. The shadow and button effects used throughout also help give depth I feel.

Personally, I ask them to lean more towards the hiltonphoto site when designing yours! :)

Alex can i ask is this company/business local? i just cant understand the justification with regards to the thing if you move you loose the site.

the hilton site does look the nicer of the two i must admit.

For the £50 a month are they supplying a secure cert etc for payments?

Not meaning sound negative or any thing just things like this that hold a client indefintate in is wrong.

hi i dont have the name on me now but will send it later

yes everything you could ask for is included ssl certificates - there is 2 servers unlimited webpages in the shop where as most people charge you

there in hessle

i wont loose my current site at all i will leave this running and do a full back up and atleast i can pull the domain name back to me if i wanted too

ah i see, i know who they are. £50 is a good price for the lot, specially when you get a cert for the https:

one suggestion if they doing the seo is get them to do search engine friendly urls,

i will keep my eyes peeled as im intregued

and they thrown in 2 domain names free aswell

Yes i will be making sure all the points covered by in this forum and one's of my own will be done

A .co.uk domain name is only £2.99 a year though, so they're not really throwing in much when you think about it.

Would the site be built on a CMS (content management system) ? If so then that would allow you add / edit your own pages, images and products etc.

there is a worry and its bugging me so i will let it off my shoulders, there are some very good stable and trusted free cms/shopping cart systems out there that are very customisable and easy to adjust and make look like your site and bare no markings to its GNU licence or its originality.

I think i know what the business unit is doing and thats charging for the hosting, https, the domains, there time for the design part to make it look how you want. i just hope its a total bespoke cms and they serve well. personally i couldn't offer a cms/cart system with ssl for £50 a month.

i already run a shopping cart but the amount of time it is taking me to rectify all the little niggles is just stupid - they do all this for me and i dont do a thing all i do is add the products and tell them what i want / need it to look like

it is also on 2 diffrent server's so one goes down the other kick's in one in london dockland's and the other i belive they said germany
