Yes
as said in the title, EVIL the future so what do you want to have it include.

me personally i want;

APS-C and FF versions

decent selection of primes 35mm f1.8/1.4, 50mm f1.8/1.4, 85mm f1.8/1.4, 100mm macro

f2.8 zooms (who actually likes variable aperture:gag:)

G1 type dimensions

possibly use of EF and D mount (the canon and Nikon versions)

A proper decent optical viewfinder and at least 5d size. Anything less than that and I am not interested at all. I had a play with GF1 and G2 in a demo stand and had more than enough of it.

yeah i think we could do with optical viewfinders but i think that it causes the problem with the whole mirror thingymajig, I'm more than happy with a high res digital viewfinder, such it won't be the same but as long as it's high quality then I'm not arsed.

Every time I pick up my F5 I think how nice that viewfinder is compared to my D200 but for now I can't see EVIL cameras even matching what I see in the D200. They'll have to more than match the D200 if they're to get any interest from me. Even more so given that I want to progress from the D200 to full-frame just as soon as Nikon bring out a 100% viewfinder on a FF camera that isn't as expensive as the D3...please Nikon, if you're reading this ;)

Olympus PEN (E-P1, E-P2, E-PL1)
Panasonic GF1, GF2

As much as I love having the PEN for portability and the fact, to the untrained eye, it looks like a compact, I wouldn't see it replacing my proper dSLRs even if it was as technically capabale - the proper dSLRs are much more comfortable to use for extended periods being larger and thus being able to accommodate proper handgrips.

What would be the point of that though? They are never going to have optical viewfinders.

The viewfinder in the G1 is excellent - pretty much as good as most optical viewfinders in SLRs I've used. I'd just like a GF1 sized body that somehow had the G1 viewfinder built in.

More lenses would be nice too. Agree on more fast primes. Also some decent long telephoto options.

I disagree. Compared to 1Ds2 EVF is small, and much worse, is not very responsive. Try panning with it! Another issue is low dynamic range of the output, i.e. you can't see the details in the highlights or shadows. Until they can improve technology this is useless for many applications.

They are all too small at the moment and I have not really had any problem with optical view finders!

I'd like 'em to make a dedicated landscapers camera - sort of a 10x8 plate camera but with a large zoomable LED screen on the back, full frame (or larger) sensor, and ISO sensitivity that goes down to single figures. Not going to happen, of course

I don't really understand the critisism that EVIL are too small as a more compact size was one of the main points of moving away from a mirror system. Make them as big as an SLR and you might as well have an SLR. But then some say that MFT are too big, but they're comparable to or even smaller than the quality film compacts many of us had years ago or maybe still have.

For me these cameras are the modern replacements for those quality compacts we used in the film days. We had big SLR's back then too but a quality compact was capable of giving comparable image quality and in these digital days we haven't had anything that could get anywhere near matching a DSLR for quality and response in real world shooting until now.

Anyway, what I'd like to see...a built in optical finder (it'll be fine for me as all I use is a 20mm f1.7) and better high ISO performance although at the moment I think that noise performance is perfectly adequate especially compared to what was possible and what we were happy with years ago.

Have you thought about the Olympus PEN with the 17mm and optical viewfinder kit?

I could use an optical or electronic finder with my GF1 but unfortunately they have to stick on top of the hotshoe and are vulnerable to knocks and make the camera much more bulky. I'd be much happier with something within the camera body, just like they used to be.

Aren't the G1/2/10 and GH1 the Panasonic G models with an electronic finder already?

I whole heartedly agree!

Panasonic is the big player in micro system cameras and if they make an optical (or very good digital viewfinder) built into a GF1 body and that would be the ultimate combo, I want to go into the micro system world however i haven't seen Canon and Nikon's offerings and so when they unveil there's that will be the time to decide.

I think making it work for the lenses between 7mm and 200mm (or whatever is their longest lens is now) would be the challenge.
