hmm
so will keep on looking for one :)
Need to get one by end of the month for Street Challenge ;D

That lens was rumoured to have been discontinued last year.... http://nikonrumors.com/2009/06/09/nikon-af-dc-nikkor-135mm-f20d-lens-discontinued.aspx

Not sure though as it's still listed on the Nikon UK website - it does however like you say seem to be on backorder everywhere, including the major US shops. Looks to me like its finished - if you find one used snap it up since if its discontinued prices are sure to rise with it being such a great quality lens.

I bought one of these only a few weeks ago. Amazing lens, it really is. (Smirk, smirk.)

I didn't have any particular problems getting hold of it. I don't think there's necessarily anything sinister. It is a lens with VERY small demand though - Nikon have made only about 13,000 of them in 15 years - so one might expect supply to be a little lumpy.

There's one available at Amazon, but I imagine you probably don't to pay £1200+.

Check the second hand retailers in case one pops up. You may even save a few quid too. :)
have done, send an email and will call Grays tomorrow as they have one new listed on their web...

Jacobs had them listed. Unless they sold out.

:) thay had....on Saturday I was told they brought ONE (1) to Focus....then it took one of salesman's a while to look for it and in the end he was told it was gone...my luck...
thinking of getting one via onestop digital maybe ....

I got it from Warehouse Express.

I didn't say "great", I said "amazing". Subtle difference. ;) The defocus technology is mind-boggling. But I'm not a serious photographer so it's difficult for me to see whether there's a place for it in ones toolkit.

I'm sure Jacobs had them both for sale at focus yesterday I noticed them when looking for my new lens

lol really ?
so they were better prepered on Monday than sunday :bat:

Its like buying bread in a supermarket at 8pm at night - out of stock, shelves are empty. Are Allinsons coming out with a new super duber uber bread? No, they've sold out.

Don't read anything more into out-of-stock than out-of-stock.

Have you tried Mifsuds? They are not showing it OOS.

But they're not showing it as in stock, either. Mifsuds don't show stock levels on their web site, so you never know whether or not they've got something unless you ask.

I believe the only mainstream retailers who do are:
Amazon
Camerabox
Jacobs (not always reliable)
Jessops
Microglobe (not always reliable)
Walters Photo Video
Warehouse Express

For me, online availability information is a big factor when I'm looking to make a purchase.

I've heard that Park Cameras are planning to do this also, but I don' have a date for it.

to be honest Ive never heard of Camerabox....
but once you have mentioned it I've checked their web page and they had one in stoock ;D

Placed an order for it ;D
should be with me tomorrow morning hehe If I dont miss the postman that usually does not ring to door....
Thanks Stewart

....
placed an order with them this morning....rang them up around 4-5PM asking if it will be posted today...
was told it is out of stock ;D love internet shopping...

Parks, whilst normally a reasonably good retailer, are bad for that. They don't keep their website up to date.
They did that with me, but when I moaned they phoned Nikon and got what I wanted in a couple of days.

Mifsuda are very good at phoning Nikon for customers.

Oh good. I always like a happy ending. (Though in this case I was half-hoping you might want to take my one for a spin... ;))

Camerabox are a bit odd. Their website is good and their stock control system seems to be excellent. Their prices are very keen, and I suspect they're probably a grey importer, except with Stirling so weak you wouldn't think that would make a difference. Their customer service is a bit variable; sometimes - mostly, in my experience - they're very good, but it can sometimes be a real pain getting through to someone if you have an issue.

I've used Camerabox for a few things and the service and goods have always been fine - SB600 and then a 105mm VR lens. However, I had a credit card fraud problem shortly after - I'd only used the card twice, once at Camerabox and once in a shop. I'm not saying this is where the problem happened just be cautious!

I've got the 135mm defocus lens. It took a bit of tracking down to get it. In the end I got a second hand one at GRays of Westminster - you won't regret your purchase.

so here I am...one week after Ive laced an order for 135DC from camerabox...

still no lens...

few hours after placing order for it I recieved an email saying I need to get in touch with them...so I did...they said they did not had my contact number :bat:
and at that time I was told that this lens is out of stock....
next delivery on friday..ok I will wait
Rang friday and was told that once they will get the lens, they will post it and I will have it saturday...web site said they have them in stock

Saturday and nothing....called them up AGAIN :bat:
Was told I will get it monday
guess what....

Rang them Monday : answer- you will have it on Tueasday.
Rang them today : out of stock ( live stock on www says they have 2 in stock) cancelled my order

Im never going to buy anything from them.

end of my rant...

the 135mm is hard to get hold of. the americans rave about it and cant get hold of them.

everywhere i tried had it listed but when you phoned none in stock its very frustrateing[they couldnt give delivery times] i managed to find one eventually and snapped it up.

this is one lens that i expect may rise in price, once youve tried it you will see why.i wanted to use it as a low light gig lens when i couldnt get close as well as a portrait lens.

i have found a few 105mm s/h and there was 1 new 105mm in nikon uks stock 4 weeks ago but a dealer had to buy it for you.

camerbox are based in a warehouse in thame easy to find them.

this is a test shot i took when i first got the lens

125/s f2 iso 3200

i am unsteady so leant my elbows on the bar. its a heavy lens on a D700 and idealy i would want at least 250/s personally.

OK, forgive me if I'm missing something, but I presume you're looking for a low f number lens for low light and so the f1.4 85mm is the option you're looking at. I wouldn't have thought that the DC control was something that would be very useful for street photography, being more suited to posed portraiture. So, I want to ask if the 105mm VR micro could be another option? It's only f2.8 but VR should help on the street (but not for macro apparently). It too is an FX lens, loses only 1 stop to the 135mm, it's widely available and it's cheaper!

Just a thought,

Just a thought,

Not to sure about DC but Im looking for 135mm and F2.0 combo :) and thats the only lens it has both ;)
Maybe Im picky but...:bonk:

Can not say Im not thinking about 105mm f2.0 DC now...
