Yes
Have been doing a bit of comparison shopping on the net and have come up with some possible options.

Canon EOS 500D - Has HD video and greater ISO range than any other, plus access to canons many different lenses.
Pentax K-x Digital SLR Camera - Worthy contender?
Nikon D5000- Opinions?
Samsung GX20 - Opinions?
Canon 400/450D?
Olympus E-450, Olympus E-520, Olympus E-620, Sony Alpha A330,
Sony Alpha A380L, Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera, Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Camera - Not sure about these?
Sony DSLR-A200K - cheap!

I need a DSLR (and want one - so a good excuse:clap:) for A-level photography...I have lots of exotic pets: www.youtube.com/fishnreptiles that I would like to take pics/HD videos of.I also really like macro photography, and in future definitely want to do underwater photography ( so an underwater housing is a must), having read 'the underwater photographer' by Martin edge.I have grasped the basics of photography, so even if the camera isn't the easiest to use, but could produce better results than another; that may be preferable.

I don't really know what my budget is but it won't be big...It will be whatever I can squeeze from my parents:lol: Plus whatever money I have of my own.Maybe #600 at the maximum squeeze, or as little as #350...And I apologise for having no sterling sign - I should really change the keyboard settings:cuckoo::lol:

Now I want some of your experienced and knowledgeable minds to help me out!

It's not a bit of good buying from other folk's recommendations :(

You need to go and try them all in your paws - honest - you have to know if they feel right.

I note you have omitted the Pentax K7 - that's the Weather Resistant one and the Kit lenses that come with them are also WR .

The 2 Pentax cameras have inbuilt image stabilisation - and believe me it works - I have wobbly hands and in my pics it doesn't show.

Obviously I'm biased - but then so is every camera owner/user :D

Will have to visit some shops :)
That's what I'm after; personal opinions - no matter how biased they may be ! haha
Good to get one from a pentax owner!

Yep, go to the shops and and have a play - see which feels good in your hands and feels right to use.

I'm a Canon user, but also know that Nikon, Sony and Pentax also make great DSLRs.

You may also want to factor into your budget a macro lens, or at least a lens with macro capability

keep in mind the range of glass available for the systems, it's not simply what comes in the kit. Some of the cameras are more backwards compatible with older lens systems (possibly from other makes too), some have more lens available in the modern offerings.
Also consider flash systems, especially for macro if you really are serious about it, although there's a lot that can be DIY'ed there.
Underwater, unless you are a scuba photo superstar with huge money to burn, a compact may well be a safer and cheaper option that's better suited and with better accessories for the task than a dSLR.

I have read that the Canon 500d has very poor high ISO, worse than the 450d. Dunno how true this is but i believe it's the same sensor that's in the 50d and that has similar problems...apparently!

The 450d is a great camera for the price!

I've got a D5000.. am very pleased with it so far.. love the live view feature.. very easy to use

you will pay more for motorised lenses though

40D, great camera in that price range

Want top ISO, it has to be the D5000 . . . Look at the spec., its a D90 . . . in sheep's clothing;)

I've had one for a few months, love it, down graded from a D90!!!! but thats another story . . .

I went with the D90 over the D5000 due to the motorised thing, I've already got 2 lenses that don't have the motors - it just allows me to pick up slightly older lenses cheaper really.

For me it was worth the extra but not everyone will make use of it.
