I am starting up, have my own photography website etc but I had a Canon 500D but I found it's for me as its too high tech. I want something around 14mp-15mp and I have around £300 to spend. I am also looking to get a new 70-200 lens for this new camera.

Any help will be apperciated!
 
I think it will depend on your subject, also the budget is somewhat restrictive.

Are you bound to any brand yet or fully open?
 
£300 won't get you far....

How do you mean "too high-tec" ?
 
I think you should stick with the 500d and learn how to use it if you...its a great camera. If you just want to run it as a "simple" camera, just set the left hand dial to full automatic (little green box) and let the camera do the work.

You are unlikely to get a "simpler" DSLR (all other DSLRs will be about the same or thereabouts in respect to functions and "hi-tech")
 
Sounds like any DSLR will be to high tech for you at the moment. I would suggest reading the 500D manual from cover to cover a few times, purchasing relevant books on camera techniques, searching Youtube for tutorials and just taking lots and lots of photographs. You could also find a suitable training course that will offer you practice hands on advice about your camera. Before purchasing a new lens concentrate on learning the basics first.

I admit the high-tec comment confused me, if anything going lower tech (ie full manual, no auto ISO etc) just complicates matters in the short term, and certainly that can be done on the 500D anyway.

I did note that the OP said "but I had a Canon 500D", so presumed that to no longer be the case.

I would say with £300 will mean second hand, but also a decent 70-200 would set you back that alone if you managed to get a bargain.
 
If a 500D is/was too hitech, your not going to find a less techy DSLR really...it's worth sticking at it and getting used to it, you'll want to upgrade sooner or later anyway soon as you start getting into it.
 
I have a 500d bought it when i first moved from 35 mm film took a bit of getting used to but worth it in the end you could join a camera club i found it a great learning tool
