What equipment should I buy for shooting wooden objects?

My first post here guys so hello to everybody.

I have had a cannon 400d before but sold that. I really want to buy another camera and I mostly take photos of wooden pet housing for work.

This is always outside what camera and lens would you suggest I have a budget of around £400.
 
Well not knowing what wooden pet housing you are talking about, but if Dog Kennel, rabbit hutch etc then any half decent compact upwards to a 1Dmk4 would do that job.
