Dear all,

small conundrum about travelling gear.

as per another thread, i am off for a 9 month trip around asia and am wondering how others store/backup/manipulate images on the move.
have Canon 400D

i have atotal of around 24GB in COMpact FLash and will have an ipod touch that i hope to use as an extra 16GB backup...

my plan is to burn to CD / copy to USB keys and send home every so often by using internet cafes etc. i had thought about taking along a netbook but mife will be hard enough trying to look after my camera without taking care of a netbbok at the same time...

so i wonder what others do to protect their data and make sure it is backed up

thanks

I have a thing called a Flaxtrax, £99 at the time. It's a little backup device with a screen. You just plug your memory card into it and press the button and it copies everything across. Once home you just plug it into your USB port and copy everything across.

I doubt that the model of Flashtrax I have is on sale now but there's bound to be similar things, probably with a higher capacity these days.

I use a hyperdrive colourspace. Plug your memory card in, backup all the contents then format the card and start again. Excellent little gadget, runs using a laptop harddrive so they have plenty of space. 40 or even 100gb wouldn't be enough for me over 9 months.

Ive gone the netbook route - although we're only away for 3 weeks at a time.

My train of thought was that I'd hardly ever use a dedicated back up device apart from once every bluemoon when travelling, but this 'ere netbook would get plenty of use before, during and after.

Also, we're going to Scandinavia where free wireless is the norm. I got the NC10 it's small enough to fit securely in the rucksack and not be a worry.
