Hi All

What happened to my shutter count?
I have a Nikon D700 and my shutter count was showing 2500 ish
But I borrowed hubbies CF Card and now its reading at over 16000 shutter counts. :shake:
I only used his card for 3 pictures, he uses on his D3
How come? Can I reset to my own shutter count? :help:

Do you mean the file numbering, or the actual shutter count on your D700? The file numbering will have been carried over from the D3 if you're saving the images in the same folder on the card, but if you check the EXIF data of one of your pics then the correct shutter count will be there.

Always best to format a card first, your image count can be reset, your shutter count will be no different when checked in EXIF on opanda.

Thank you to you both
I will check my EXIF details
Can i reset the image count?

Yes you can reset image count but not shutter actuations

Windows

There are plenty of EXIF readers that will give you the actual shutter count under Windows. I use MacOS so can't tell you what it is but if you post a recent pic I will tell you what it's shutter actuation count is.

Its the image count i want to clear.

You can reset the image count to zero but not to the previous 2500 ish.

Image count is zero'd everytime you take the battery out, and may well change when you change cards too

Really?? The count is NOT zero'd by removing the battery from any Nikon camera I own (don't have the D700 though).

Whether the count resets when you change CF cards depends on your setting in 'File No. Sequence'

Image count is zero'd everytime you take the battery out, and may well change when you change cards too, but as it says above the actual shutter count (actuations) cannot be reset.

Image count reset options are selectable in the menu. To the best of my knowledge it doesn't reset when battery is removed

its not, but it is possible to 'break' the file numbering sequence by inserting an un formated card from another camera. I guess you can do it other ways too
