what has happened to lensesforhire web site

It is a temporary issue. I'm on the case.

Yesterday our website providers (EKM) migrated lensesforhire.co.uk to a different server, to improve performance. This means that the information about the new physical location of the site needs to percolate through to all the DNS servers all over the Internet. I was told this should take up to 6 hours, so the site should have been back by some time on Friday evening. But clearly it isn't. I'm following it up with the technical support people at EKM.

Hope its fixed soon for you Stewart, not what you need when running a business :(

Tell me about it!

I thought scheduling the migration for Friday afternoon, which is always quiet, was a smart move. But the downside which I didn't think of was that, if anything goes wrong, it's difficult getting prompt tech support on a Saturday!

It can take up to 48 hrs to migrate DNS over the internet - but usually a lot less. I would have thought it should have been up again by now. My hosting company offer tech support 24/7 - even Christmas Day. www.donhost.co.uk

Can be up to 72 hours for worldwide propagation.

Its up to the settings on the TTL object in the A record for not only the domain but also the Name servers So if the TTL on the nameservers happens to run out and renew just before your chnge the wait (for some) can be longer.

Dont need the temporary workaround as the original now works for me

The time taken will depend on the time to live in the zone file. Or should, some caching nameservers ignore it and always use 168 hours. Learned this one the hard way :(
