What head for Gorillapod?

Hi

I am looking to get the Gorillapod Focus £61.49 on Amazon.

http://joby.com/gorillapod/focus/

They also do ball head which you can get in a package for about £102 all in making the Ballhead £40.51.

The only thing which I thought might be useful on the ball head is a handle for panning.

Planning to use with a 50D & 17-40 and a 1D3/4 with a 70-200/2.8 on.

Would that be useful to have?

Any suggestions?

Just for it as it is with bundled ballhead?

Different ballhead?

Any help appreciated.

The ballhead will help you to compose shots, level the camera. I don't see much use for panning to be honest.

You will be able to manipulate the legs to level the camera or compose, but using the ballhead will be easier. It'll also let you do portrait shots..

I bought the version down from that, the Joby SLR Zoom and Ball Head. I mainly use it with my 20D and 24-105mm lens and don't try and over load it. There's been many post that if you put too much equipment on the joby, i.e. go close to the maximum weight allowed, it can't cope, but you should be fine as 1D4 and 70-200mm f2.8 lens comes in at 2.6kg about 1/2 the load Joby says it can take and personally I wouldn't push it beyond that. As for the ball head, bought mine just to give the Joby a bit more flexibility and height. Use the Joby as a light weight tripod when hiking in the Lakes

Thanks chaps. Probably just go for the kit head then.

Will make sure not to overload.

Thanks for that Dale.

That RedSnapper RSH-20 Mini Ball Head looks just the job & I already have a Manfroto monopod so have a couple of quick release plates.

It's hard to see from the photo - does it have a locking pin like the Manfrotos have e.g. Manfrotto 494RC2?

Do you find the spirit level very useful?

n.b. sorry for so many questions.

I should have dug up my old thread! I don't think I've got a locking pin on it but I'll check when I get home, I've found it to be perfect for anything I've thrown at it, hold weight nicely and its solid.
Spirit level can be handy for making sure its level although my EP2 has this built into the body anyway.

Thanks Chris.

I've highlighter the locking pin it works exactly the same way as the one on my manfrotto 488 rc2 head.

To be honest I don't really use the spirit level as I have a little hot shoe spirit level that I use instead.

Oh my God Dale how the heck did I miss that - numpty. :bang::bonk::bang::bonk:

Last question. How would you say the quality is compared to your Manfroto ball heads?

I've not used it a great deal but when I have I've had no issues with the quality at all.
I think I paid about £16-17 delivered for it, I've not looked but I'd guess a manfrotto will be considerably more than that so value for money is great with this head.

Ok fab - thanks for all your help Dale.
