Hi all having only recently found out there are settings within the camera for recording images i take it some sort of processing, what settings do you set as it were, i got mine second user so would i be better setting back to factory settings?
What do you have set.
Thanks in advance.

Set it back to factory settings, then as you get used to the camera, you can customise those settings to suit your own preferences...

My preferences - or anyone else's - are unlikely to match your own...

What Rob said. It depends too whether you shoot jpeg or RAW. If you shoot RAW, those settings are appended to the RAW file like a sort of 'post it' note, but you're free to discard them or accept them, whereas with a jpeg the settings are irreversibly applied to your actual image.

Thanks folks, i shoot raw unless its for ebay ( has meant some wasted shots having not set back to raw.
The thing i ask about in camera was such things as sharpening etc.
Thanks again.

With sharpening, many would say disable it completely in the camera and deal with it in processing whether you shoot RAW or jpeg. It's probably good advice as you can't beat sharpening each image on it's particular merits rather than applying blanket settings to all your shots.

Don't forget either that when you reduce an image in size for web viewing it loses definition and will need sharpening regardless of whether or not you sharpened the image at the full size (in fact you shouldn't - conventional wisdom says you should only sharpen an image at it's intended output size and it should be the last thing you do in editing prior to saving.)

Thanks CT,
I thought it best that sharpenning should be done out of camera.
Having said that i must get some edditing software, i have apperture 2 but appart from apple site vids there does not seam to be much info about for using it, its all hail the lord Adobe.

Agreed - if you're shooting RAW anyway, you'll need to do your sharpening in PP as it'll look a lot better...
Turn it off completely and get into PS4...loadsa-fun!

According to for out of all the image settings the nearest you can get to off is Normal there seams to be no off.
Oh well.

If you're shooting raw then unless you're editing with Nikon's s/w any in camera image settings will be ignored by the raw editor - or is that a Canon only thing?

Should be the same - sharpening should only be applied to the JPEG thumbnail...and would only be applied to the RAW if you 'accepted' those settings when opening the file in PS...

Thank you all, so since i shoot raw Nothing to worry about then.
Thank you all again.
