What is a conversion lens?

I am looking at this lens on Ebay as I cannot afford a proper fisheye lens but would like to have a play with the effect.

Bower IR Digital FishEye/SuperWide/Macro .42X AF lens

I have a 20D so understand that I will never get a true fish eye effect as the crop sensor chops off part of the effect.

So what exactly is a conversion lens (I presume I attach it to the front of an existing lens? How can it be superwide and fisheye? and what does the macro bit on its own do?

Thanks for any help!

Conversion lenses do indeed attach to the lens already on your camera via the filter thread.
If the thread size on the conversion lens does not match that of the lens on the camera an adaptor will be needed.
Conversion lenses usually are either telephoto, wide angle or macro.

Your weblink does not take me to a lens so it is hard to comment on the lens you have in mind, Tina.
