What is it with delivery of the GX8 ?

No
Had a bonus at work recently, so as I have a nice holiday coming up later this month, thought I would treat myself to a GX8. Went onto Camera Price buster and saw that Camera World were the cheapest at £649.00. After the Panasonic rebate of £75 it would come in well under £600 (bit of a bargain). Went onto their website, shown as in stock so ordered. Then received an email a few hours later to say they were not in stock and on back order and could take 2-3 weeks to deliver. I cancelled, asked for a refund and started to look elsewhere.

Then found that Park Cameras (a very reputable store) were advertising (and still are as of 2 minutes ago), the GX8 with 14-140 lens combo for only £899.00 (which after the £100 rebate would only be £799.00) Again another bargain. Once again I went onto the website, "In Stock" was showing (BTW as they STILL are as of 2 minutes ago), so ordered. Then received a call last night from Park on my mobile to say that they couldn't supply as this unit had been discontinued!!! WTF

It's a brand new camera, and every other retailer is selling the same combo, how can it be discontinued. I think what's more likely is as they were nearly £100 cheaper than everyone else, they got the price wrong and are now reneging on the deal. If the price was wrong why didn't they just say that instead of this "it's been discontinued" crap. Needless to say not very impressed at all and have again demanded a full refund and won't be using them again. I'll stick to WEX I think, as they have never - ever let me down.

I don't think in the grand scheme of things I was ever meant to own this camera.

Oh well - rant over !

Thanks Twist
I passed this on to my colleague Andy, and he has asked me to post his response here, as he is not yet a member on here.
Hope this clarifys things

Hi Sootchucker,

It is true to say that the website did show the GX8 + 14-140mm in black in stock, but sadly this was an error. We can confirm that this particular kit has been discontinued, which we have had confirmed by Panasonic UK. We have amended the website to reflect this (although it takes a short while to update), and do of course apologise for the error. As you know, we contacted you as soon as possible to make you aware of this fact.

As to the reason why this kit has been discontinued, for a camera that is still relatively new, we are uncertain of the answer. It may be that Panasonic are simply looking to reduce the number of kits available to make things less confusing for customers.

We do however have the silver version of this kit in stock at this moment in time, priced at £899.00 (although effectively it would be £799.00 after you claim the £100 cashback that is available at the current time). You can also currently receive a free Panasonic leather case worth £99 when purchasing the silver version (whilst stock lasts). Whilst we realise it’s not the black version you were after, hopefully this would be a viable option.

It is certainly never our intention to mislead customers in anyway, it was simply an error on the website that was providing the wrong information.

We hope that this is of some help to you, but if you have any further queries, please e-mail nothappy@parkcameas.com, and we’ll do our best to answer them for you.

Park Cameras

Thanks Andy. Appreciate the clarification. Weirdly enough, Park have contacted me to say the discontinued bit was actually an error and they are on back order and should be in stock within a week or so, so kinda confused now see email below

"Thank you for your email and I am very sorry for any confusion caused. This was an error by my colleague who misread the model number prior to emailing you.

I can confirm that this is currently out of stock however we are expecting new stock within 5-7 days. I can also confirm that we do have availability in the Silver version if you decided that would be suitable."

I don't want one in silver but need the camera before Friday next week which to be fair Park have been honest and said they couldn't guarantee, so have asked for a refund. (A little surprised I was charged when you didn't actually have any in stock though ?)
