What is the autofocus like on the X-Pro 1 with the latest firmware?

Hey guys,

I'm going to be buying a new camera soon and the X-Pro 1 is on the shortlist but I need to know what the autofocus is like since it has been 'fixed'.

Most reviews I can find for this camera were written when it was released and had focusing issues so I can't really get a good sense as to what it's like now.

My current thinking is that I can get the X100S for the time being until a successor the the Pro is available. However, if the focusing has been tweaked enough that it's not going to be too much of a hindrance then I may just go with the Pro now.

I suspect you'll find answers on this thread.

I've found the current Amazon deal on the X Pro1 too good to pass-up. The Fuji X Forum appears to be firmly under the impression the X Pro2 is going to be announced late January and available shortly thereafter, most other sources seem sceptical.
 
Id strongly advise you to test one. Whats decent AF for one person is poor for another.

The X pro 1 focus is not super quick but it's not so slow either. In fact normal subjects it can focus very quickly. If your expecting dslr focus then you shouldn't buy it.

As to the X pro 2 rumours take them with a huge pinch of salt doubt anything will appear for several months yet. Some of the new lens sound wonderful, fast aperture zooms a plenty. Fuji seem to be turning the X series into a formidable system. My eyes are on the new 56mm 1.2 which will equate to a nice portrait focal length.

I would suggest an Xe2 over the 100s as the lens mount will not change unless they make the X pro 2 full frame.
Then your already into the system the Xe1/2 is a great camera. Whatever you buy I'm sure you will enjoy it.
 
Oh, I'm under no illusion that the autofocus speed will be similar to that of my 7D but so long as it's not terribly slow and missing focus all the time I should be absolutely fine with it.

I'm not too fussed about if there's a X-Pro 2 around the corner or not. I will upgrade in good time when it comes down in price as I know that the X-Pro 1 is a great camera in itself so will last me a good while.
 
It is not up to a dslr (like my d300 or d700), but its better than it used to be. It can be more hit and miss with the kids but overall pretty decent.
 
Yep i think the upgrade make it a lot better AF,as above not quite as fast as my D700 used to be,but its a lot smaller to carry around :)

My Fuji dealer think its going to be an X-Pro1s,with maybe an full frame X-Pro2 coming later in year ? :)
 
Another question....

How's the RAW support in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6? I see comments on the web slating the RAW editing options but these are dated back several months so perhaps things are better now?

Interesting, I've been on the verge of pulling the trigger on either an x-pro or an X100s for some time, as I'm increasingly finding my D700 a bind to carry round, even with a prime. Thing is, at the moment, most of my photography is of my little girl who moves round rather quickly. The D700 copes fine, but my X10 struggles, much as I love it.

My only qualm is I'd be buying into another system, when I've spent the last 10 years building up a a large collection of Nikon glass. The price and lens offer on the Fuji is really good at the moment though. Decisions, decisions........
 
I had dinner last weekend with a local pro photographer who uses top end Nikons and a Fuji X-Pro1. He has some fantastic street shots with the Fuji but cannot use them in weddings beyond bridal prep shots as the AF is not fast enough for his style of shooting. If you have to get the shot of a fast-moving subject I would not choose the X-Pro1. The X-E2 is meant to be better though...

I know what you mean,had to make the decision a little while ago,just couldn't carry around a full DSLR kit anymore,most of my shooting is outside,i have been taking some shots of little one she ten now,but mainly outside last time was when she went ice staking,the AF did to keep up it was an outside ring.

Yes i would agree maybe the X-E2 has the faster AF,i have both :)

This is it though, so much of what makes the right gear is the personal style of the photographer. Other pro photographers are tripping over themselves to say how perfect the X-series (and XP1) are for them - Kevin Mullins, Zack Arias for example (just come to mind because I've been reading their blogs for hints on setting up my new XP1).

Which is why questions asking for the best camera are almost always the wrong question.

Spot on. The choice always has to depend on the way the user wants to use the equipment. Messi is probably the best footballer in the world but if your team needs a goalkeeper you ain't going to pick him.

Have a look at Damien Lovegrove and Bert Stephani too for Fuji tips, both have very helpful blogs
 
Doesn't matter if the X pro 1s or 2 is out soon. It ain't going to work out at 1158 quid with 3 X primes. In fact it will probably be 1.5k body only for an incremental upgrade like the xe2. If you have the extra it's worth considering but price wise the xp1 is a steal!
