What is the best flash for a NIKON d3100?

I've got a Nikon SB400 flash already, but is limiting in the angling. Without spending a huge amount, any recommendations for a good flash?

It'll depend on your budget, if it's under £100 then something like a Jessops 360AFD or a Nissin Di622, otherwise an SB600 or the newer SB700 would be the best choice.

I wouldn't discount the Metz 50 AF-1. Intro 2020 have one for sale on their ebay shop for £140 (reconditioned) at the moment. It should completely integrate with your 3100.

Another vote for the Nissin Di622 now in MKII form for £120. I have 4 of the MK I version which I use for interior photography and they have always been reliable and consitent. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

Another vote for the Di622. I recently bought a MK2 and am quite impressed. A mate has the SB700 and I do think that is better and certainly more intuitive to use but it's over twice the price (I actually only paid £80 for my MK2) and I couldn't justify that.
