Hi All..

I did a portrait shoot yesterday and when I was reviewing my photographs I noticed this :

When I look through the viewfinder I also saw it a couple of times. Is there a problem with the lens or the sensor? I wouldn't have thought it was the sensor as that, what appears to be a crack is not on every photo? Please correct me if I'm wrong? It only seems to show when fully zoomed out..

The lens is a 24-70 Nikon 2.8.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help..

Ed

If you can see it through the viewfinder then it's not the sensor, if it appears on your images then it's not the viewfinder, which only leaves the lens.....

I can't see it all the time through the viewfinder, it seems to be random but have noticed it appears only when zoomed out wide at 24mm?

Am I correct in saying, if it was the sensor then regardless of the zoom length then it would appear on every image? (the crack that is)..

Thanks

I don't remember, I know the D3s has it, but the D3 has liveview right?

If it does, try turning it on, and having the same focal length on the lens. Do you still see it on the liveview at the same focal length as you move the camera about?

If so, and it's only happening on that lens, then it's probably an issue with the lens.

u not see i t if it was in lens .. lets see a full frame image with what ever it is u see

Hi Chaz.. that is just the top part of the image (all the way across). That crack is at the top... The area below the crack seems to be fine..

When I look through the viewfinder it appears to be random. Sometimes it is there but most of the time it's fine?

But because both are still under warranty, I just want to know :(

Only seeing this little bit of a frame - is hard to say - was there a seam on the background cloth? (Assuming that's what we're looking at here?)

If you can see it at all through the viewfinder, regardless of focal length, then it's not the sensor. If you had a mark/crack/hair across the sensor you'd see it if you took the lens off and locked the mirror up.

Tbh the fact that you could see it when the lens was zoomed out kind of suggests it's a crease on the background cloth.

Easy way to test it - take some pics at the same settings but of a different subject and see if it's still there, if it's is then you have a camera/lens problem, if it's not then the background needs cleaned/ironed........
