I am looking to make the jump from Nikon to Canon.

I have;

D90 mint 4 months old, MB-d80 grip, 18-105mm kit lens, 50mm f/1.8 and speedlight SB600.

If I wanted to swap that out for a Canon body, grip and zoom lens what would I get.

Hope this isn't against a rule, it's a serious consideration and I just don't know?

Ive done pretty much just that.

I started with a 450D, but it was just too small for me, so today I got a 50D and its much better. Bigger than a D90, more like a D200.
I also have a 70-200 f/4 IS, which is awesome. Nikon dont really do a comparitive lens. I also got the 32mm f/2 to replace the 50mm 1.8 as the canon 50mm version doesnt seem very well built, although still very sharp.
And to finish I bought a 17-55mm f/2.8 as a walk around lens, which is a really nice size and range on a crop camera that would replace your kit lens and then some.

Canon certainly have a better range of lenses than Nikon, there is the 24-105L If you want a all rounder instead of 2 or 3 lenses.

As for the flash, no idea. I asked that exact question yesterday on here.

50D/550D or maybe a 7D, me thinks not sure about lenses or flash.

I'd say you'd be looking at a 50D with an 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS (VR to you) and an 430EX II.

Cheers guys.

I don't use the flash at all, it's brand new.

So really what I want is body, grip, zoom and 50mm.

You think I could get a 7d in trade?

It would be trade plus cash for a 7D.
The 7D is a higher model, roughly equivalent to the D300s in nikon's line

Cheers Squish, good info.

The flash is £230 new, so maybe that could go towards the shortfall?

Why do you want to move if you don't know what kit you'll be moving to?

That's what I was wondering.

If you don't have a particular lens of body in mind, why do you want to switch?

Ideally I would like a decent body with a fast zoom lens. That's it really.

So I want to know if I did switch to Canon with what I've got, can I get it.

well you can get a 70-200 f/4, which as TRC4X4 said, nikon don't do.

faster then that, you're into big money 70-200 f/2.8's

Hold on! What is wrong with your Nikon first? What sort of magic do you expect from Canon?

Canon currently has worse DX / APS-C bodies, and far worse 50mm lenses.

If you are looking for a lovely full frame 5D mk1 or mk2 then I am with you.

don't do it - I'm canon, too many lenses to swap - so locked in - but if i started again now , the base would be a d700 not a 5dII

Jump? I'm not too sure...
I think about D90 as one of the best digital cameras ever made (for consumer / semi-pro level).

"Ideally I would like a decent body with a fast zoom lens. That's it really."

You can have that with Nikon.
