I use the SLR Zoom with a Manfrotto ball head. As a free standing tripod, I don't really rate it for SLR use but it's great when the flexible legs are wrapped around something. With more time spent setting the legs up just right etc, it can be made reasonably sturdy as a tripod but it takes some time - the leg wrapping method (when possible) is far quicker. I use a Manfrotto head since the QR system is then compatible with all my other major supports - the RC2 - which means I can leave QR plates on all bodies and feet to avoid any faffing.
If the Focus had been available when I was after this type of thing, I would have gone for that but at the time, the SLR Zoom was the top model.
