What large camera bag to buy?

It's not that easy looking for a large bag online, as it's hard to tell how much I can fit in, and the pics rarely are shot to scale. Currently have a lowepro (fastpack 300 I think, holds laptop, body with a 70-200 plus space for flash and 2 smaller primes, as well as a top space that will take a body & prime or a 24-70). This new bag will be an occasional one, for when I want to take most stuff with me, so while a lowepro would be nice, don't want to be forking out £100 plus. It needs to hold...

D700 with 70-200
D300 with 300mm f4
Nikon 24-70
Couple of primes, maybe a flash too
Space for a film slr and prime and another film camera (rolleicord), plus odd storage areas.

Ideas?
 
Simon, have you looked at the Lowepro Pro Runner 450aw? It's a big back pack and is sub £100.

The only other sub £100 bag that springs to mind is the Tamrac 5613 Ultra Pro which retails around £90. This is a shoulder bag and holds tons of kit.

There are a couple more that I know of but are well over your budget.

You may fit that lot in a flipside 400, currently about £85 at a couple of places. Try to look on YouTube for bags that you are considering as you get a better perspective of the size.
 
I've had 3 large Tamrac bags, the first was an Ultra Pro 13, and it took 2 bodies with lenses attached and half a dozen lenses or flashes. It does come in above the £100 limit but the Tamrac Ultra Pro 11, which is slightly smaller, comes in around the £100 mark.

Once I'd outgrown that bag I decided to get a rucksack type bag. It's the Expedition 9X and it holds 2 gripped bodies with lenses attached, 7 lenses and a couple of flashes and lots of other bits and pieces. It's a fantastic bag, comfortable to carry though it does get heavy, but it is out of your budget. If you could find a good second hand one it shouldn't be too much over budget, but if you plan of upgrading your kit in the future it might be worth saving a bit more for a bigger bag instead of filling one and having to buy another later on.

Lowerpro vertex aw300 is a fine specimen, I got mine for £129 at the now no more Jacobs photographic, plenty of room for 2 pro bodies, a 70-200 attached to one and a 24-70 on the other as well as an abundance of slots and pockets for lenses and flash guns etc, there's also a laptop compartment too!

Kata HB-207 is the only one which will hold that lot, mine holds a Nikon 400mm f/2.8, 2 x Nikon D3S, gripped Nikon D800, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8, Nikon 16-35mm f/4 VR and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, laptop, flash etc, etc.
 
I use a Lowepro Flipside 400 AW Rucksack

2 bodies, flash - 5 lenses including a huge Sigma 150-500mm and a few other bits in the external pockets

worth a look :thumbs:

Not wishing to argue :shake: but I think you will find that both the Lowepro Super Trekker (out of production but available 2nd hand) and the Pro Trekker 600 AW are both much bigger than the Kata. The only downside with the Pro Trekker 600 is the price, here are very few sub £250 so out of the OP's budget.

Azaboppa, I agree re the Vertex 300AW, it's an excellent back pack. :thumbs:
I didn't mention any of these models due to their price.

Modchild, I totally agree re the Ultra Pro 13 and I didn't mention the Expedition 9x as I have yet to get my grubby hands on one! Didn't you also have that HUGE Tamrac shoulder bag from the States?

Spent ages looking at various websites and the Tamrac Ultra 11 or 12 is looking favourite although Amazon have a 17 which looks good.
 
I have a tamrac x5, it's the right size for carry on and holds d800+d7000+flash + 3 lenses and has some space left.

Comfortable to carry and has extra pockets for accessories and a tripod holder.

It all depends on the individual airline's size and weight restrictions. Unfortunately, there's no 'standard' so it's a case of checking with the individual airline each time.

It looks like the OP wants to carry 2 bodies with lenses attached. I have tried but don't thick the Flipside 400 will do this.
 
I had no major problems carrying a Tamrac Ultra Pro 13 fully loaded a good few miles. It was a good size and carried a good lot of stuff but I outgrew it when I got a Sigma 150-500 OS, a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 USM and Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS MkII. I got a Tamrac Expeditioin 9X rucksack but still had problems getting the big Sigma in with all the other gear. Pretty sure the OP would get the gear listed would get it all in a Ultra Pro 13 and still have a bit of room to expand in.

Now on the 'super large' Tamrac Super Pro 14 (Tamracs biggest bag) and I certainly don't want to be carrying that much farther than a few yards when fully laden, but it does have a piggy back option for a trolley thankfully. You can't get them from the shops in the UK for some reason, I had to get mine from the USA and then got charged import duty on top of the rather large price.
 
After a lot of deliberation, went for the Tampa ultra 13. Was tempted by the 17 as that was taller and narrower but decided on extra space.

I'm assuming the Tampa is a typo and it's the Tamrac Ultra pro 13 in which case you have made a good choice! :thumbs:

Don't be put off when it first arrives as it was designed by the Tardis inventor as you can store a ton of kit in them!
