I think you need to post a bit more details as to what you are expecting to photograph and budget.

mainly photograph landscape, people and portrait, for travel. my all budget about £1300.

Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 would be my choice.

Maybe you should be a bit more clear in your posts about what you currently have and what you want.

I assumed you already had a d7000 and was considering upgrading to FF in the future.

In that case I'd probably recommend the D7000 along with the kit lens. Whilst not the best IQ, it will be wide enough to use for landscapes, zoom enough for portraits/people and light enough to carry with you when you travel.

I have a Tamron 18-200 which I took with me on holiday because you don't want to be taking a whole load of kit with you since it's just extra weight. Not a lens I'd use professionally but more than enough for holiday pics.

The money you have left I'd use on a bounce flash and a 35mm f1.8 prime for those times you will need to work in low light.

This 100%. Kit lenses aren't the jam jar bases they used to be, and whilst their flaws show up on test charts, they're perfectly capable in real life use.

I'd also consider a decent tripod in the budget, and an IR remote control (£2.70 from eBay - couldn't live without it).

Brilliant 17-55 f2.8 and a D7000 body is a cracking combo - with a bit of searching you could get both for your budget (Mint 2nd hand lens @ £600 and New body @ £700).

spend more means more decent!!! if you don't mind using second hand, D7000 with 17-55 will be superb! then get a simga 501'4!!

I'm in a similar boat and pretty much have an idea of extra lenses in addition to the kit I would get BUT...this is on my original percieved usage, coming from a bridge camera

When I sat down and thought about it in more detail I was really unsure. A budget of £1300 would get you really nice setup with additional lens BUT how certain are you of your needs at this stage?

I have decided I'll just buy the 18-105 kit and use it for a while before making a decision on what primes to go for....I expect it will be the 35mm f/1.8g but I'd rather wait a while and not waste money unnecessarily.

So unless the money is burning a hole in your pocket, why not wait a while?

price on camera with kit lens is just under £840 purchased from a UK company at the moment

in fact I am just off down the road to one of these retailers now :)

Well if you are thinking of going FF defInitely buy a second hand D7000 which I think is in the £500-600 area.

I'd then get either a 35 or 50mm prime. From then on it really depends what kind of photography you are interested in. If it's sports then an 80-200 F2.8 which I think are about £600 second hand...that's FF lens so would work well for you.

If you want a general all around lens I reckon the 24-120 F4 is the lens....you could buy that and the D7000 within your budget. That's a FF lens. If you did that I'd also squeeze a nifty fifty in as a cheap but very good fast prime...they are less than £100.

ive got the sigma 50mm 1.4 on my d7000, and i love it. its my favourite lens.
lovely and sharp, great bokeh etc. is it better than the nikon ? .... i honestly dont know, and to be honest, i just dont care. the sigma does it for me !
