What lens should I buy?

Hello.

Basically I dropped my camera (what a Muppet) and broke my 18-55mm kit lens, so I am now on the hunt for a new lens. I'm using a Nikon D5100, it's my first ever DSLR so I'm new to photography and not too sure what to get? I like doing both portrait and landscape so I'm looking for something that can do both, my budget is around £150. I've been looking at the 35mm f1.8g but don't want to spend that much money until I'm sure. What do you think? Can anyone recommend any others?
Thank you

Replace the kit zoom. It will make a decent fist of most subjects, including landscapes and portraits, and there's nothing to touch it for the money. You'll find 35/1.8 not very versatile, and not an obvious choice for portraits or landscapes either.

:plus1: on the 18-105

But if you have the money and only want one lens I'd quite fancy the 18-200mm -- but I only use primes so I wouldn't put too much stock in that.
