Hi Maurice, welcome to the forum. For Sports, you'll probably find a 70 - 200 deals with a good number of situations, you may need to go a bit longer up to 300 depending on how close to your suject you get. Saying that I often shoot a wide angle if I can get really close
For landscape, I'd say you want something round the 24 - 28mm (just my opinion though!).
If you want to go really crazy with landscapes you could use the sigma 10-20 ultra wide angle

I was about 3 feet from the boat when I took this, so that gives you some idea of the field of view that you get from it.
For sports I'd say you're going to need a fast lens, something like a 70-200 f/2.8 to make sure you can get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action. It does depend how close to the action you can get though
