What Lens would be best ???

Hello guys,
Im a newbie with photography and have had a slow learning with my new camera Eos 550d, I was recently in Dubai and was trying to click the Burj Khalifa, the worlds tallest building but could never get the whole building. I have a 18-55 IS lens and also a 18-128MM sigma lens but i guess i would need something smaller to get the whole building into the frame. Am i right in thinking this or would it be something else.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Sigma 10-20 would be a good choice. I think Tamron might have one similar too.
 
tamron 10-24 , also the tokina 11-16 - you might also consider a fish eye like the samyang 8mm

however the problem with using any lens to photograph something that high will be convevergence caused by pointing the camera upwards and distortion caused by the curvature of the lens , therefore i'd say either shoot from further away and then crop , or shoot a vertical panorama of multiple frames and stitch them together - either of which could be achieved with your kit lens
 
All the lenses mentioned are wide angle lenses. Wide angle means a lens with a focal length usually below 24mm. All the lenses mentioned have focal lengths from 10mm upto 24mm.
The lower the number the wider the view is in very simplistic terms.
 
Hi, in case it helps here is my 2 cents:
I own the Tamron 10 - 24 which i have found to be a great lens, though I have not tried the Tokina or Sigma. Here is one of my images taken with the Tamron:

I have now moved to full frame so will be selling this lens soon, otherwise i would keep this as i found it to be a good lens opening a whole new world of photography for me.

I have heard very good reports though of the other two lenses mentioned especially the Tokina, but this was a little out of my price range when i was looking for a wide angle lens.
