What lenses to take to Japan

I now realised I have more lenses than what I can carry around on a single trip. I'm going to Japan for a conference so I will be spending 7 nights in Tokyo and 6 in Okinawa (I plan to do a few day trips from Tokyo to nearby places as well).

I decided to take my a580 instead of the a77 as I wanted something light and small. The 16-50 is definitely going with me as I want to do some night shooting and it's quite good wide open so I won't have to take my 24, 35 and 50 primes.

My problem is: I don't tend to do telephoto shots so my longest lens is a beercan (quite bulky to carry around given that I will get on 4 flights + trains). Should I ignore that and take my 16-105 as a walkabout for day trips? I'm concerned that I will end up at the other side of the world wishing I had a longer lens with me (I also have a 18-200 but it doesn't get a lot of use lately and the IQ is not that good).

Soooo...what would you guys do?
 
Take nothing buy everything you want over over there job done.
 
I'd suggest you take it(long lens). If you don't use it, you don't use it.
You will no doubt start wishing that you'd had it the instance the opportunity pops up to use it and its not in your bag.

Part from that, Have fun. Tokyo is on my bucket list, so I'm a little jealous. :)

Electronics in Japan are not as cheap as you may think ;)

Thanks! I'm quite lucky, as being a PhD student gets me to give talks in nice places :) Hope you get there soon as well.

I bought one instead of the Beercan ; it was a trade off between constant F4 or constant F4.5 but the size and weight difference swayed me towards the 100-200mm. It's a lot smaller than the 18-135/16-105/18-200 lenses and probably half the size of the Beercan.

If you've got a compact camera then get a waterproof case/bag for it because Okinawa has cystral clear water and plenty of stuff swimming around in it. Take a longer lens for peace of mind if you want - I've been lucky enough to enjoy both of your destinations and never felt like I needed anything too long except when I visited some aquariums and sat in the stands to watch the open pool shows. Most of the time standard to wide angle was needed. Have fun and visit the fish markets.

Thanks Rod. No need for underwater as I have checked the temperatures and I am not likely to go swimming or diving (a bit too spoilt having grown up in eastern Mediterranean ;) )

I bought the 100-200 and i have to admit it is much sharper than I expected :)
