I haven’t seen the video you mention. Can I suggest you post a link?
However, I know that he does tend to like using small continuous lights for backlighting or for picking out background features. If it’s cable-less, he is most likely using a small battery powered video light, probably something like a Lowel id, which has become quite fashionable with top-end wedding photographers over the last couple of years.

The big light panel he uses is £1250 if you think that's expensive Rob

It can be rather amusing at times. I've seen photography suppliers trying to pass of torches from Halfords and B&Q as being something special for photography and adding a quantum to the price
The Lowel is rather good though and unless you go for something like a 150W Arri with barn doors that plugs into the mains you are a bit limited in choice. PAG also makes one which I'll have to go and have a look for.
