I think i'm correct in saying the canon macro ring flash wont work with the sigma 150mm due to the large filter size. Any advice appreciated.

Hi,

As far as I am aware you can fix the Canon Ring Flash to the 150mm Sigma Macro lens by using the Canon 72C Macrolite adapter (circa £30). The 72C adapter simply threads onto the lens, and the Ring Flash is then affixed to the adapter flange.

Hi Roy,

I was thinking that the sigma had a 77mm filter size but you're correct it is 72mm. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Scott,

The 150mm Sigma Macro is supposed to be a cracker of a lens - there was a review of Macro lenses in the May 2010 edition of Photoplus and they said "for outright image quality, there's almost nothing to choose between this lens and the Canon 100mm IS".

So to avoid handheld camera shake providing you are on a tripod its a good buy and very good value - Have you ended up with one?

Hi Roy,

I've not got one yet as i was put off with the 77mm filter size(doh). I will have a look over the next couple of weeks and get some pennies put away. I know there are one or two about just now that i would be happy to purchase but it's the same old story of not being paid for a couple of weeks.

Well, if you changed your decision and went for a Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro, then you could, maybe, use this: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=229604.
matty, a member here, wrote he had bought a coco ringflash and some sort of a macro flash from WHE. He said he'd review them, but I guess he's busy or enjoying free evenings. I'd love to read a review of those, though. I think one of them might fit on the 150mm Sigma.

i got the 150mm macro from Sigma and think its great. I use a flash mounted via a bracket off the tripod ring. I get decent shutter speeds enough to handhold and chase the bugs etc..
