Yes
I'm after a new screen, it needs to be at least 22" but preferably a little bigger. Any advice on what screens give good picture quality etc welcome.

Oh and I don't have too much money to spend at the moment as I also want to buy a new lens but viewing through the TV is starting to annoy me now!

Thanks,

I have a Dell 2407 wfp, it is an absolute corker! You can still pick them up on fleabay!

I get my Dell 2209WA tomorrow, which uses an e-IPS screen and is meant to be the dogs gonads. Let me tell you tomorrow evening.

I'm considering the Dell 2209WA to replaced a good but now too large CRT display. I'll be interested in your comments, especially if it calibrates OK. What's the best source?

My Dell 2209WA gets shipped to work later today. I know what I'll be doing tonight.

Perhaps this is a silly question but will any monitor work with pretty much any PC?

pretty much yes although there are two types of connector.

My Dell 2209WA has both inputs which is great because I have my desktop PC on one input and my Macbook laptop on the other and I can flick between them just by pressing a button on the screen.

Or for a slightly better spec, cheaper, and better looking monitor you could get one of these:

I've got 2 running and they are the mutts (the rose tint is a nice touch). Excellent all round screens for both editing and gaming. They run at 1680x1050 but bear in mind if your graphic card only has 768 memory or less, you cannot run 2 of them at 32bit colour and the above res. I've got 2 cards running independantly to drive them.

i've got a dell 22" HD widescreen recently with my new studio xps desktop computer

superb monitor running at 1920x1080 :)

considering buying another for dual screen

That looks like a nice screen and a very reasonable price, 1080p HD too, tempting!

I'd prefer to buy new then at least I have a warranty period although knowing my luck I'll get one and the computer will have a catastrophic failure :(

No need to wait as I can confirm it is a fine screen. Great value too.

The 2209WA is a better screen for photography than the 2209W which is linked to earlier in the thread.

The 2209WA is probably slightly over what I want to pay although I could save for a little longer and get one...

I'd been looking at one of these but read a review somewhere (obviously I can't find it now!) that said there are a few issues with dead pixels straight from the box... I assume you've had no such issues?!

may be out of your price range but have a look at apple cinema displays if you want a quality display

I love 'em

I have to say that I was very close to buying a Sammy T220 myself. Unfortunately, whilst they've got great response times and do look nice, they also use TN panels. As I understand it TN panels do not have the colour gamut capabilities that IPS screens have (such as the 2209WA).
So for games, the T220 is spot on. For editing photos, the 2209WA should in theory be a better compromise. I say in theory, as I've never had the opportunity to compare them, so I'm only going on comments elsewhere on the net.

Nope, no dead pixels at all and none of the 10's of reviews I read mentioned the issue either, all were glowing.

Whilst it's true that IPS screens handle colour better, in the T220 Samsung have managed to get it pretty close. The blacks and whites are deep as they should be, and the colours handle better than most multipurpose monitors and nearly (but not quite) as good as monitors designed specifically for photo and video editing (which are proportionately more expensive).
If your full time job is photography, then by all means go and buy a specialist monitor since it will pay for itself, but if you are a hobbyist or only do the odd paid job, then forking out the extra money is overkill. The T220 is an excellent monitor for the price. (y)

Agreed that the T220 is an excellent monitor. Did you know that the 2209WA is now available for around £200, which is not that much more than the T220.

I've had my Dell 2209WA for a week now, good value for the money. No problems or bad pixels. Although good value, it's not as good as better displays costing lots more, there's no free lunch. I sometimes use an Apple 20" Cinema Display, excellent, was pricy before being discontinued. It's an obviously better display than the 2209WA, the same 1680 x 1050 resolution squeezed into a 20" display, and with a smaller pixel pitch, it's noticeably sharper and pretty good without profiling. For my use though, the 2209WA is adequate, and has a 3 year warranty against none if I bought a used Apple 20".

The Dell 2407wfp was as good as the 23" cinema display so maybe the smaller models have fallen behind. My monitor is 2.5 years old and a few weeks ago the power button stopped turning the monitor off/on so I have to turn it off and on with the mains socket. Just checked the documentation and there is a 4 year on site warranty!!! They are collecting the monitor tomorrow and delivering me a brand new one at the same time. I seriously hope it is the same model I will be well naffed off if it is a newer one if they are not as good :)

I have a Dell 2407wfp, superb monitor. Dell also supply a 3 year dead pixel warranty on this model.
There was a hardware test in one of the Photo mags a few months ago which pitched the Dell against other 22"-24" monitors and the 2407wfp came out as the winner.
I am even tempted to get a second as at the moment my 2nd monitor is a Dell 17" and just doesn't even compare to its larger brother!
