So I'm looking to add some glass or maybe add a new camera or upgrade my existing.

My question is, which road shall i go down?

Current Kit:
Canon 5dmkii
Canon 70-200 is f4
Canon 85mm 1.4
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 40mm 2.8 (mainly for video)
Sigma 105mm 2.8

I mainly shoot portraits and product with video in the mix, So personally I'm thinking either a 2nd body or a workhorse lens like a 24-105mm

Yes, way to much! ha ha. Several speedlites, Bowens 3 light kit and an elinchrom 3 light set plus 2 Chinese portable battery flashes.

Really? its not something i thought id notice. But to be fair i haven't really played with one properly. What were the main things you noticed compared to the mkii that i would benefit from for portraits and product in studio and natural light?
 
Well, not sure I can help on that front as I don't have a studio. I have used it outdoors for an ARPS panel which is being assessed soon based at Slimbrudge (but not a nature panel...going in a visual art category) - focus system is good as I like sports and am now starting to like the more active side of bird photography. Hopefully someone here can chip in with a more technical explanation!
 
And you might also think about the new pixel monsters coming out this month for IQ....
 
Fair reasons Chipper.
Guy at work uses one but has now opted to use the new sonys for his work. so may enquire about having a play with the mkiii and see what the fuss is about.
Id like the 'pixel monster' but not sure i could justify the price tag.
 
Yes..they seem very pricey and then there will be the massive file sizes and the spare hard drives you will need... I asked about the size of a tif file and was told, assuming no cropping I think, about 140mb!! Still, I can see that appealing to a studio photographer especially if the medium format kit is out of (most humans') range. Be interesting to hear what you do the end, so keep us posted.
 
As you've mentioned product photography then maybe a TS-E45 or TS-E90 would add something meaningful to the mix.

...though at higher ISOs the IQ won't be as good as a 5d 2 or 3 due to the noise from the densely packed sensor.
