I think you are absolutely correct. I would say 90% of my bird/wildlife photography is either from a hide or truck sitting on a wimberley head so no hand held stuff. I'm interested to see that the 200/500 f5.6 is a popular choice. My wife wants to get a 500mm lens and we were thinking about the 500mm f5.6 but maybe the 200/500 would work better........certainly save on the walletD850 over the D500 as you get the best of both worlds. Also if you've 'coped' using the AF system on the D810, the D850 will be just fine and you won't need the little bit extra the D500 brings in this department.
You’d need the FTZ adapter, but my experience has been that they work 99% as well on the Z7 with the adapter as they did on my f-mount bodies.I think you are absolutely correct. Nikon Rumors is talking about a Z8 later this year but I think that would not work to well with my 600mm f4?

Ping me when you do........I would like to see them.I was using my D500 primarily over my D4s but today I’ve just had my new D850 so I’ll be using that from now on with either my 300mm f2.8 VR or my 500mm f4 VR. Took it out today for a brief test whilst walking the dogs and I used my 70-200 f2.8 VR2 and got some great results. I’ll pop some pictures up in the right forum page as soon as I get chance.
"I could get the 200-500mm f/4"
That would be a nice lens.... always fancied the 200-400/4 Mk2 but the 200-500 is a 5.6 - thought you already had one of those Mike
