What Nikon lens combination?

I have just bought a Nikon D600 and 50mm f1.8G, and I am now thinking about possible lens combinations to go alongside.

I have been shooting a lot my stuff recently with a 24mm equivalent on my OMD, but I do prefer a slightly longer field of view. I would say that 35mm is my preferred focal length. My original idea was a nikon 24-70 f2.8 as I have owned one before and loved it! However I have been tempted with other lenses too and cannot decide the route to go.

I shoot mainly travel, photojournalism and PR. I have shot predominantly on my OMD with prime lenses (24mm, 50mm, 90mm) recently.

I have been looking at:

24-70mm, 50mm, 85mm

16-35mm f4, 50mm, 85mm

35mm 1.4, 50mm, 85mm

If i was shooting just travel and photojournalism I would probably go for the 16-35mm combination as it would save me a bit of money and weight, but I sometimes shoot fashion and I know the 24-70 would be useful for that. I have never really owned a lens wider than 24mm so I'm not sure how much I would use the wider end of the 16-35. If I didn't bother with the 85mm I could probably afford to buy both the 16-35 and 24-70mm, but I like to have an 85mm in the kit.
 
That 8mm extra width with the 16-35 is i would suggest more beneficial for proper landscapes for that specific look.

Im in a similar boat.. except i own the 24-70, use it on dx for portraits. have just sold my 10-20 and dx set-up, so trying to decide if i can warrant a 24-70 plus a 16-35. I actually prefer the wide angles and want that uwa look, but think id miss the 24-70 if i sold it and not sure i can afford both.

The 16-35 are appearing in stock again now, so getting very tempted, still waitin for my D800 to come to try with th 24-70 to help me decide.

The other thing that puts me off selling 24-70, is people say its a perfect match for the d600, d800. So think unless you want the UWA look, suggest the 24-70. :thumbs:
 
Yeah i'm just worried I would miss the long end. Saying that nearly everything I have shot has been at 24mm, with portraits shot at 90mm. difficult choices. saying that I borrowed a friends 17-40 when i was using canon and really loved that range. My 24-105mm was not used in over 3 weeks. :shrug:
 
Have you consider the 24-120 f/4 VR? Might make a useful travel lens though obviously nowhere near as wide as the 16-35.
 
Daz, why not hire the so-called trinity for Nikons - the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200, all f/2.8 and see which you most want? Or you could save a few (hundred!) quid and go for the Sigma equivalents. By the look of it, you qualify for classified access so have a look in there to see what's on offer.
 
I was in the same boat, moving over from DX, but already had a 24-70mm & 70-200mm. 24-70 is brilliant on FX.

I added the 16-35mm (over the 17-35mm) to replace my 10-24mm for landscape shots.
