/MAJOR RANT MODE ON

I started a thread a while back about choosing whether I'd go with a macbook or a dell. Well, after a little more research, and a little more time, I decided to get one for the g/f as a wee birthday present. Said I'd go for a wee 13". Nice and dinky, and pretty cheap too. Before ordering I took a quick look at the outlet store and spotted one made to my spec and was returned unopened... cheaper again, that'll do the jobbie! Ordered it on the 28th of May, to be delivered on the 7th of June. Perfect timing for the present.

Hits the 5th and I get the first email. "Your order has been changed"... ok, no worries, popped it open, new estimated delivery date of 15th June. I can live with that! Hey, a few days late, she won't mind, I had also taken her to brighton as well so that would take the pressure off.

13th of June.... "Your order has been changed"... ok, this time I do worry... estimated delivery date changed to 22nd of June... ok, now that's pushing it... but hey, I'll live with it!

Ok, so no more notifications. Wicked! Hits 22nd of June... day passes by... 4 o'clock hits... where's my bleedin laptop?!? Popped open the website... estimated delivery has changed to 28th of June.

Ok, that was a bit cheeky... and now I'm beginning to sweat a little... so I pops them an email telling them I'm a little peeved off that my delivery date keeps changing and the last time it changes without notification yadda yadda.

June 24th. No reply yet. Open up the orders page.... estimated delivery date has changed AGAIN! To 2nd of July! Ok, now I'm seriously miffed. But I decide to send an email rather than biting some poor individuals head off.

Later that day I DO get a reply. An apology saying they are working with their suppliers to get parts and will do their best to bring the date closer.

Ok, so early this week I'm keeping a regular eye on this delivery date. Seems to be holding fine up until today... and I spot it change to the 8th of July... I can't believe my eyes! So just to make sure, I refresh the page... and get this... it changes to "CANCELLED"....

Wha?!?

DELL?!?!?!? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON :bang: :bat:

... sorry honey... seems like no birthday pressie for you this year... :|

I'm torn between telling them to shove it and holding out. Don't know if I can get as good a price for something similar else where. Maybe I shoulda bit the bullet and went with a macbook after all . Very expensive though.

Err, if it's a return (unopened/already built) why are they waiting for supplier parts, surely it should have been despatched in a couple of days at most?

You've been far too leniant, tell them to stuff it or apply a discount.

Right, well, been in contact with customer service, and it seems the issue is that "the system is no longer available". I don't have the time or energy to start a row. So stuff them. I registered a complaint and told them I won't be dealing with them again.

Go elsewhere, suggestions:

GOoooooooooooooooo

my money is on the stock figures being out of skew..

easily done at any company to be honest.

Very true. My issue is with the lack of communication to be honest. If they identified this and let me know much earlier I would have still gone ahead with the order. And to cancel it without telling me!

Ah, who cares. Ebuyer just got a sale off me for a better spec machine only costing about 20 quid more. Thanks again Ali

Glad your sorted. We buy dell laptops cheaper from our supplier than we get from Dell! Plus there was a time that PC world sold them cheaper than Dell wanted for the same item.

the trick is to phone dell towards the end of the month when theyre trying to hit targets.

The buggers missed 2 end of months with me . Anyway, all sorted now, and by the looks of things it might even get delivered today, if only I knew about these guys before :)

Where is my commission? :P

Oops! Apologies, here you go...

don't spend it all in one go now!

Bejus H rice... With all this world cup melarchy I haven't been checking my account... take a quick look today and Dell have taken the payment out for the non-existant laptop... I've got a serious gripe against them now! They better not make me take this to the small claims court :bang:

Best call them otherwise you'll have another laptop soon. I'm guessing they didn't cancel the order.

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on this. What absolutely APPALLING customer service(or clear total lack of) Memo to self:-"Never deal with Dell"

Thanks again for the much appreciated info and I hope you get it sorted with minimum further hassle.;)

Don't get me started on Dell.

They're a bloody nightmare - even more so on servers.

Trying to upgrade our ESX clusters has turned into a longwinded and extremely frustrating process. Should've stayed with HP :bang::bang::bang:

id say the opposite.. HP support are shocking with our E-V-A (not sure why the un-hyphened version was censored?) SAN and dell are spot on with server/desktop support.

even HP sales admit HP support is dire.. lol

I can feel the red mist descending having had to put up with Dell's "customer service" after they delivered a faulty laptop. I will never buy another piece of kit off them ever again. I'll say no more as the rest of this will be starred out other than to say they seem to hate their customers.

On a game fansite I go on, when there are yes/no polls as part of threads, there's normally also a "Dell sucks" option, just for the hell of it. Only thing I like about Dell are their monitors, other than that, my advice is to steer well clear. However I guess it's a bit late for you, sorry =/

Maybe we're a bit bigger than you with HP.

We have dedicated account management and support. Far far superior to Dell. The only good thing about Dell is their Price.

They were so desperate to get us to go with them that they offeed to replace 200 of our servers that were going end of life at a loss to themselves if we gaurunteed them business. Now they can't supply the kit.

maybe, maybe not.. but youd expect decent support on a £70k+ appliance no matter what size business.

we had a PSU blow in a dell server a while back, granted it had twin PSUs so had redundancy and wasnt overly urgent but a replacement PSU arrived the same day within 4 hours. not grumbling about that.. :)

Don't actually have an issue with support for either company, although fir us HP is better.

This thread was about Supply of equipment, for which HP knocks the socks off Dell every time.

fair dos..

there was 1 occasion when dell couldnt ship servers to us quick enough which resulted in us having 4 out of 30 servers being HP. oddly we had issues with those servers straight out of the box. and they go through PSUs like i do underware :D

anyway i'll stop being a dell fanboy now.

I'm posting off my new (used) MacBook after two monthes of hell from trying to get a refund from Dell. I really really really would not recommend them after the shambles of a machine they sent me which was meant to be a good laptop.

And then, when they fixed it they sent it back not fixed and didn't even put it back together properly.

I was told by about 7 people I would not get a refund and in the end I threatened legal action and 24hours later I was told I'd get a refund! :)

Well, cheers for all the interesting reads there! My "issue" has been escalated to their finance team which in turn are handling it. Haven't checked my account yet (bloody Barclays and their pin sentry ) but will check later to see if they were snappy about resolving this.

Here's to hopin! Because there's a TV license man looking for that money as we speak

So - we order another 5 high spec hosts with all the trimmings. These will be 8 processor jobbies with loads of ram for our data centre. What do Dell do? Not ship some of the components with it, meaning they're just useless pieces of tin on the floor in the loading bay
