Hi All,

I am looking at getting some really good quality paper in and my dad suggested The Ilford GALERIE range having seen some of his prints i think that's the route I’ll take, but thought I’d ask here for your opinions as well before actually buying it

for your info I have a cannon i9950 printer

Cheers

I use Epson Premium Glossy but only coz I have always had an Epson printer.

The Ilford papers are probably the best but from what I've been told you need the (ICC) profile for your particular printer and also to calibrate your monitor and printer. Not used Ilford myself but have seen the results from it.

Ive got the same printer and Ilford Gallerie 'CLASSIC' is best.

Other papers i use are Fuji Multijet Premium Gloss 270gsm - Green/purple box
and Canon's own matt MP-101

I use mainly the following

Epson premium Gloss 250gsm
Epson Fine Art Smooth
Ilford Smooth pearl
Hahnemühle - photorag, Monet Canvas, Museum Etching

I use either Canon's own papers or the Ilford Galerie in both my Canon printers (iX4000 and s820). I always use Canon original inks.

My Dad has had good results with the Ilford and great results with Hannemule stuff, plus you can download the ICC from Hannemule easily, not sure if this is possible with Ilford

On my Brother DCP350c I use the Ilford Premium Photo paper, in either satin or glossy and it's the best I've had. It dries very quickly and the images look lovely. The ICC profiles are available as free downloads (according to the pack, I've never tried though)

Just to throw something different into the mix, I use Fotospeed papers and inks. They offer a free calibration service and supply custom ICC profiles for the various paper types.

I have been pleased with the results...

Kiasdad and I have used Permajet Oyster 271 for quite while now and we're very pleased with the results. We've tried plenty of others but always come back to this one.You can download profiles from the Permajet site.

Ive got a fair bit of Permajet, oyster, belgian linen, payrus, museum, all very good. Also use Fotospeed PF Lustre, print most things on this now. When I started printing my own stuf I used Ilford Gallerie smooth gloss and oyster, still print on the oyster ocassionally depends on what im printing, the smooth gloss is good but can be just a bit too 'glossy' and only suits a few images. My main one now has to be the Fotospeed lustre, really do liek the prints with this right up to A3+.

I use Kirkland from costco, the older version was reported as being made by Ilford, the new batches are made in the US and are slightly different.

Has anyone any experiance with the MX2 "own brand" paper. I have just ordered some 7x5" as they seem to be about the only suplier appart from Canon who do it... or certainly the only ones i've found where it is readily available?

Also wishing you could get 8" x 10"... anyone seen any this size... I always feel I get alot of wastage with A4!

M

I use many different gloss or satin/pearl papers for general stuff

Ilford smooth gloss/pearl, jessops gloss/satin, permajet gloss/satin they pretty much look the same in terms of sharpness/colour/blacks ETC

for selected work I'll print on fibre based papers such as harman FB gloss (WT), epson traditional, ilford gold fibre silk.
