What photo paper do you use?

Hi,

I'm not sure if this has been covered on here before, so apologies if it has been before. I've been trying out a few different types(Matt,Glossy etc) and different brands on my HP A4 printer with a CISS system and I've had varying results. The HP Premium photo paper gives great results, and it appears to be hardwearing(240 GSM) although the ink takes a while to settle an dry on the paper unlike on the HP advanced stuff which gives an almost instant drying time, but then again it's more expensive to buy(even in bulk) and quality wise it's about the same as the normal HP premium paper.

Has anyone tried any of the 7 day shop's own range of A4 photo glossy paper? If you have, what do you think of it? I know that different printers will all give different results, the same goes with ink choice and also paper and ultimately user ability when printing.Is there any paper out there that's worth paying a bit more for, like special occasion prints etc..I know that Ilford have a Pearl range of paper which from reading sounds interesting.

iv got to say that the best paper iv used is tesco finest range, super glossy, it gives better results than any other iv used yet, and it always seems to be half price
 
I guess it depends what you want out of the paper. I've used all sorts over the years and I like Ilford but only every pick it up if I can get 2 for 1 somewhere as it's pricey. I've used the HP Premium stuff and don't personally rate it myself.

The trouble is that with Costco you have to have a membership card, and in order to get that you need to provide proof that you have your own business or are in a certain trade before you can shop in there as it's cash&carry and like most places like it you can't just walk in there willy-nilly. Unless you happen to know of somewhere that sell's their own brand glossy photo paper cheap?

My local Costco is a fair drive away, not worth it just for some cheap photopaper to be honest :(

Quite true. We are no longer members as we found that we were buying large quantities of things we didn't really need. Mind you, we know people who are still members. :naughty:

I was a hardcore advocate of Epson's premium glossy papers in my Epson printer, but a recent supply hic up forced me into using what ever I could get at short notice.
I tried Tesco's finest paper........:eek:

it's a mere 15gsm lighter than Epsons but my wallet is about £15 heavier and the quality is more or less identical !!!!!!!

Love Ilfords Gallerie Pearl but Lidl do an Agfa glossy paper every so often which gives very good results at about a fiver for 100 a4 sheets.
 
Being a Canon user I user I normally get suckered into their paper but have used quite a bit from Lidl's on my HP which is made in Switzerland and have found it very good and very cheap.
 
I don't do a lot of printing, but I do like the Ilford galerie smooth pearl. 290 gsm so it's a nice hefty feel to the prints as well.

Exactly the paper I've just started using after buying a new Canon MP540 printer, very good it is too especially for framing as it doesn't suffer from reflections like glossy papers can...previously I owned an Epson and always used the OEM papers

If you got a CIS as I have (a great one at a great price from Cityinkexpress) Try Permajet as you can get FREE ICC profiles for each of their papers. I know that the paper is not a cheap one, but if you monitor is calibrated and you have the right colour management with the ICC profiles you not have to keep printing out test ones and will save on paper and ink in the long run

not framed any yet but i've been told about a framer who already knows about me so i am hoping to go see him about frames this weekend, i will get prices for people
 
Went to Hobbycraft yesterday to get a cutting mat and noticed they had clip frames 35 x 50 cm ( just a bit bigger than A3+) for about £5.50.

Cutting mat out of stock ... damn.....
