What port is this on back of old dye-sub printer?

Anyone tell me what this printer port is and where I can get a cable that will allow me to hook it up to a PC to test it? It's female and has 50 pin-holes. Thanks.

Sorry for poor image. I was balancing a HEAVY old printer on one knee in a dark room, using one hand to steady it and trying to grab a pic with the other whilst a cramp was gathering in my left foot :lol:

what i mean is that it's on the back of an old dye-sub printer. edit - updated title for accuracy
 
I would agree that it looks like a Scsi port and there are a number of old Scsi dye subs. :shrug:

and 2 ports make it look more like Scsi, chaining and termination?
 
Yeah does look like a SCSI connector. Possibly a really old style parralel. May be able to get a converter somewhere on ebuyer or ebay

edit: could it be an internal connector, the printer coming from a kiosk perhaps?
 
It's a DB 50 pin scsi, you will need a scsi card for your PC as well as a suitable cable. I have some scsi stuff up in the spare room, I will have a look later this week and see if I can find anything that may be of use to you!

LOL Wasn't much help it's lucky you counted or would have bought the wrong cable!

I'm off on Wednesday and hopefully feeling better so will look through my junk box and see if I have any old cables kicking about, if not of to my brothers this weekend to play some pool and pickup a Sun Server toplay with so maybe able to grab one! Not promising anything but will have a look see...
 
Cheers - much appreciated if anyone can help. I'd really like to test this old monster and see if it still can print. It has ribbon and a roll of paper in, so is worth trying :)
 
I've dropped them an email just in case. Thanks. Don't have Win 7, but yes, will keep the fingers crossed with Vista - altho I doubt it too.

I wouldn't have thought W7 or Vista would be able to pull anything through an old SCSI connection! Should be easy setting up the SCSI card though :)
 
When buying/looking for a cable you will also need to know the fitting on the SCSI card, they will rarely be the same.
 
Try adding a printer in Windows and telling it its connected to port "SCSI channel 0"... good luck!

Almost certainly that printer was designed for connection to an Apple of some sort - back when Apple's weren't an Intel platform with a buggered up Unix operating system ;-)
 
Just a little reminder in case anyone comes across the relevant leads for this, I'm still looking, and of course willing to pay a small fee to take away your junk :lol:
 
I'm now not off til Sunday, hadn't forgotten but as was off work ill on Monday am now working my day off...

Ok thanks, so it's basically getting a cable with male 50-pin SCSI 2 on one side and male 50-pin SCSI on the other and then a female 50-pin SCSI card to slot into the desktop. My non-technical mind is finally getting around this!

Now the question is whether anyone here finds some bits before I'm forced the ebay route? :D
