What price would my 400D go for?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of selling my Canon EOS 400D to help pay for an upgrade and was wondering what if might sell for?

It is about 1.5 years old (I bought it after it had been refurbished by Canon in late January 2008), it has some marks from use and two of the button symbols are fading, but it is in completely perfect working order (as far as I know) and I'm going to get the sensor cleaned before I sell.

Here's what it will come with:

It's "Canon Refurbished" box, all the wires, manual and software
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens with a Kenko 58mm UV filter and a Kood 58mm Circ. Polarizer (both filters with their original cases)
Canon RS-60E3 remote shutter release
3 batteries (one Canon brand and the other two are Integral I think.) and Canon charger
4GB CF card

I would hope to get about £300 for this lot... is that too optimistic?

Thanks!

Joe

Joe,

There is a 400d with kit lens for sale in another forum for £270. You have some other bits so £300 looks like a good starter.

well, they still sell refurbished with warranty for £250 on ebay. However used ones usually fetch the same price. £300 is a bit high, but you could get it if you do it smartly.

I'd say £300 is high! My ex-girlfriend bought her 400D for like £260 and my friend bought his for £190 (both on eBay). My 450D is on eBay at the moment and someone has bid £380.

I'd put it up for £280 and see where it goes... You might want to sell all the accessories separately, they'll be worth more and you may see closer to £300.

Refurbs go anything from £250-300, but still, its definitely worth £270 I'd say

Are we comparing like with like here?

Wildlight is offering two 58mm filters, a remote shutter, three batteries and a 4gig memory card.

If it is advertised at £300, someone will try to knock it down. If it is advertised at £270, someone will still try to knock it down from there.

Finally, many believe that fleabay buyers are often paying more than an online retailer will charge. Is it the bid, must win, mentality?

If it's any help I paid £230 for a 400D with kit lens and three batteries from a personal sale on here. It was like new.
