Ok so I've decided on my canon Pixma IP4700, and ordered the official canon ink.

Now what about paper? I know nothing about it ... and there are so many different grades.

I want to print some a4 portraits and landscapes most likely for framing but also in albums. What should I go for?

In the past I have tried loads and found Kirkland (Made by Costco) the best for me, Doing two prints with this and Epson premium glossy I am pushed to find a difference

also used Canon paper and always went back to Kirkland

Other more expensive paper for different finishes I would go towards Illford for that, I used smooth pearl and thought that was great with bigger prints, not sure about A4 sized and have always stuck to kirkland, I think you get around 150 sheets now for £12ish

I use to use Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper with my Epson printer filled with compatible cartridges. Excellent finish.

However, since someone on here mentioned that Tesco Finest was half price (usually £3.99 per pack 20) a month or 2 ago I thought i would try that. I absolutely love it. Very high quality IMO. And it is thicker than some of the Epson stuff I bought.

I use glossy paper almost exclusively and get results that I like from Canon's own PP-101 and Ilford's Galerie Smooth Gloss (green box). For give aways I also use Lidl's own brand paper and have recently bought a pack of Aldi's to see how that compares. Inks are always Canon's own brand - tried a cheapo compatible and was not impressed with colour balance or print longevity.

I use Kirkland (Costco) paper for my own stuff - it's really good & exceptionally cheap. I use Ilford for clients as it's water resistant.

Permajet
Fotospeed
Epson
Hahnemühle
Canson

Hi,

I too can vouch for the Kirkland professional A4 glossy. I have been using this paper exclusively for the last year and it's very high quality indeed. The only downside is that it's only sold directly by Costco and you can't just walk in your local Costco and buy some without having a traders membership card..however there are a few people on Ebay selling packs of it if you look.

Mike.

I use Ilford paper on my IP4300 as Ilford provide profiles to match the paper to the printer.
