Hi.

I have worked in IT for 2 years now and Im starting to feel that its not for me. I am wanting to get into photography but Im not sure how to go about it.
Im only 20 but have qualifications in IT (CCNA and MCSE) and feel that I might be wasting these? I feel as though I'm maybe to young to go to college?
Im really confused on what to do!

help!

cheers

my advice would be to stay in IT. you are young and with the right attitude and effort you can move up the IT ladder quickly.
In my experience if you step out of IT its very hard to get back in to it.

IMHO making a living from photography is like wanting to be a pop star. The chances of making a living from it are minuscule. And its only going to get worse.

But if you are pig headed, slightly stupid and determined (like me) then maybe you might get some where.. Or maybe you'll end up in a **** load of debt (like me) :)

It's a big decision to make, especially if you've invested time and money in the Cisco and Microsoft certification tracks. Don't rush into anything...

Back when I got into IT I was 17 and my career took off, when you're that young and eager to learn it's all so easy. I was lucky and got a role with Bull Worldwide Information Systems, from there I landed a series of contracts with big blue chips like Compaq and EDS.

I started in desktop support and since then I've worked in server support and even had two separate roles as a team supervisor - but I'm currently back in desktop support. With work drying up and rates on a downward slide IT isn't the pot of gold it was when I first got started.

Despite the changes to the industry there is still a lot of opportunity, and money can still be nice at the top end of the CISCO and Unix trees.

If you decide that photography is for you then look at what you need to earn and the type of work you'll have to do to earn it. If you can live with the results of your research then start planning a few short courses or 121 tuition to get a feel for it.

If after all that you're convinced photography is for you ... go for it!

we all can push a shutter... but IT..its the tops...stay with it
