if you're at all serious about scanners I'd try to steer away from the 35 quid cheapo jobbies for driver longevity and quality.
I still have an epson 1200u and it does a good job many many years later
to be honest I only need a scanner for digitizing tear sheets, contracts and other such forms as well as the odd slide, which doesn't need to be stunning quality as its just personal stuff.
