Hello all,

I am currently using my Sony A200 with a Tamron 18/200 mil lens but need a bit more distance on my zoom for my wildlife subjects. My dilema, do i go for a sigma / tamron 70 / 300 or a 1.4 or x2 telecoverter on my current lens, I am on a tight budget

Any advise would be great thanks,
Steve

Hi

I was going to suggest a 50-500 sigma. I have seen some lovely shots with it, taken by others. But you said budget is tight.

Can you borrow that lens and a 100-300 or similar. At least you can get to try then before shelling out loads.

Not sure if they do loaning for sonys. But they should do :)

Your 18-200 is probably not compatible with a teleconverter, and even if it were the results would probably be really really rubbish. Do your research very very carefully before proceeding if you go down this route!

think the tamron 70-300 or equivalent can be had for low cost

also have you thought of minolta beercan?

Thanks for the advise, am now researching the beer can and opting for the Tamron 70-300 and then next year treating myself to a Sigma 150-500:)

I have a sigma 150-500mm and love it, I wouldnt get a x2 converter as Stewart says would seriously reduce image quality and have no auto focus just manual, I hardly ever use my x2
