what should I do looking after gear on winter shoots ?

hi guys
Thinking of doing winter landscape shots in snow & freezing conditions ..
How do I go about looking after my canon gear . So I don't get any problems with my camera gear ...
Eg from ice cold to back home in the warm
Don't want any condensation or problems with the cameras or lens
How would you do it ?
 
When I went to Iceland, I took some of those 'click heat' things, something like these but big enough to wrap round the lens and keep in the bottom of the camera bag http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/3212...ICEP3.0.0-L&ff14=122&viphx=1&ops=true&ff13=80

After shooting, I'd seal the camera and lens in a ziplock plastic bag (the sort that keeps out the air) and allow it to return to ambient temperature before even considering taking it out of the bag - that way, any condensation happens around the outside of the plastic bag and not on your camera - and don't be tempted to take it out too soon! I've just left the kit sealed in my camera bag when coming in from the cold and never had any problems. Wouldn't leave it it anywhere humid though. There's normally a load of old silica gel packets in the bag, although i'm not sure if that makes any difference.
 
What about the other way around ?
From hot/warm home or car to outside ??

Shouldn't be a problem.

Incidentally another thing you should do is try not to let your batteries get too cold. They lose charge more quickly in the cold. Obviously when you're out shooting the battery in the camera is at whatever the ambient temperature is, and there's nothing you can do about that. But keep spares inside your coat, and don't leave a battery in the camera if you're out in the cold but not shooting.
 
I've used mine in freezing conditions and never gave it a thought about going from cold environment to warm house, and never had an issue either. I think we can over think things sometimes tbh. Granted if you're going from ice cold to a humid area then there may be reason to be a bit more cautious, but otherwise I'd be surprised if it's an issue. These things aren't super super fragile, they are made to be used. I recently went to a tropical butterfly house and in my infinite wisdom never gave it a thought that it was reasonably cold outside and of course going to be humid inside :oops: :$ Granted the lens steamed up so I couldn't shoot anything, but no harm was done. Granted both my camera and lens are weather resistant, but I don't think it would have been an issue otherwise, there were plenty of people using compacts and phones with no issue ;)
