What should I do

As anyone who read my earlier thread would know I just bought a canon 50mm 1.8 II which was delivered yesterday... On inspection there seems to be what looks like a mark / spec of dust on the inside of the rear element of the lens. However, after taking a handful of shots last night and comparing the exact same shot to one taken of the same subject at the same focal length with the kit lens, you can't see anything on the images and nothing in the view finder.

Since the lens is new and comes with a warranty is it worth returning when it appears to be working fine or should I just hold out and see how it goes?

You will always get dust/other small items inside your lens, there's no point trying to get rid of them all as they will only come back.

If it's not affecting image quality I wouldn't worry about it

Over a period of time you will find traces of dust working its way into the lens, and with a zoom lens it can attract dust even more. But there's nothing really to concern yourself with - I have a telephoto zoom which is more than 10 years old and has its fair share of dust particles inside but is still razor-sharp.

However, I suppose with a brand new lens you shouldn't expect to find any so if you're not happy, then you would be within your rights to ask for a replacement.

I've got 20+ lenses and it's safe to say that there's dust/debris in every one of them....I gave up looking a long time ago.

That makes me feel a little better about it... I'll just keep it and if I get further problems then will claim under warranty but so far the pictures seem very sharp.
