What should I keep, D200 or D80?

Just bought a Nikon D300.

I now have to decide what Im going to keep as my second body - my D200 or my D80.

I like the D80 as its small and light and works well as a second body when you are out and about (like Airshows, for example). Has the same image processing engine and the 11-area AF as the D200.
Then the D200 is a lot more robust, better weatherproofing, and has a higher frame rate, quicker AF.

Any suggestions?

cheers.

I'd be tempted to keep the D200 - there doesn't seem to be a big difference in value if you sell them second hand, and the layout of the D200 is (for all intents and purposes) exactly the same as your D300.

Agreed that the D80 is smaller and lighter - but it can't be that much of a difference can it? Especially if you've got heavyish lenses on.

Which do you prefer using? Do you need to recoup any money to help finance the D300? Do you want to be able to use the same remote releases for both bodies?

When I was faced with the same dilemma at the end of last year, I kept my D70 and sold the D200, mainly because the D200 was worth a lot more and I knew someone who was after one. I also have some affection for the old D70 - it was my first DSLR and I've had a lot of great pictures from it (and they always seemed to need less PP than D200 pix). The D70 is also a fair bit lighter than the D200 so is easier to carry round the neck all day, although my main body is now a D700 which is heavier than the D200 and I'm just as happy carrying THAT round my neck all day! As for weatherproofing and sturdiness, I'm likely to seek shelter from foul weather so it's not a real issue for me - the camera gets shoved under a waterproof jacket when necessary.

I would keep the D200-it is similar to te other but has obviously better build etc

I still have my D200.........

Ditto... :suspect: ... but then I don't have A. N. Other DSLR either... :naughty:

:p

Still have my D70s as well though Ven............:D

Just love the colours it produces and can`t bring myself to sell it on, call me sentimental.......

Sell them both and get another D300?????

Now thats a good idea.....

.....or sell all three and get a D700, but then i'd need to sell my 12-24 f4 DX and buy the full frame one.....hang on getting a bit carried away....

but the get another D300 isnt a bad suggestion....:D

Sell up and go Canon - just another flavour to add to the mix!

Thanks for all the suggestions - it seems most advice is weighted in favour of the D200.....however Im still undecided......
