What size Lens-hood fits my camera?

Hi Guys and Girls

Silly question, but it needs to be answered!

I recently bought a Nikon D3000 with an 18-55mm VR lens. This is the stock lens that comes with the camera. Now I ordered a lens hood off ebay which was advertised as '58mm Flower Lens Hood f Nikon D3000'

Looking at the title, I assumed it would fit the stock lens, however its too big and does not attach.

Looking back, do I need to purchase a 55mm lens hood? Or a 52mm? Because both of those are also advertised they would fit the camera I have, but im not entirely certain what one will fit it.

If anyone could please let me know, or point me in the right direction, that would be brilliant.

Thanks
Tayler

you need 52mm.

there is an official nikon hood for the lens, but it's just a small round plastic circle. not ideal really, but then the petal ones may be the wrong shape and get in the way of the image, making the corners a bit darker, especially when the lens is at its widest settings.

Do lens hoods fit the camera?

I was under the impression the size of the lens dictated the size of the hood ie if it takes a 52mm filter you're better of not buying a hood for a 58mm

Could be wrong though :geek:

I've got a genuine Nikon lens hood for this lens somewhere

If I can find it , would you be interested ?

sorry to be terse but the lens diameter is on the lens,,,,,,,

Lens diameter = hood thread,

Sorry to pick you up on that, but it is not always on the lens (my 35 f2 or 180 f2.8 for example), however it is usually on the back of the lens cap
