Hey Guys

I'm looking at getting a tablet to help with my editing.

Looking at the Wacom's but they all seem pretty small, especially as I'm working on a 30 inch screen , whats do people recommend?

You don't need much. I have an Aiptek A4 tablet and find it far too big for my 2 x 24" monitors so I have it set into mouse (relative) mode and just do hand strokes. Although it is half the price of the Wacoms I think I'd be tempted by a smaller Wacom next time as the Aiptek can be prone to jitter.

I would say the budget max is £250 but could realistically stretch that if something far outstripped the competition for a little more money

what a utterly amazing response so informative and helpfull, I hope your pleased with your informative and valued responce.

Do you think that if I just wanted to spend the maximum that my budget allowed I would just do that?

What I want to know is what people recommend and if it really is worth spending that much money, or is there a better option , or maybe I don't need that much space and a smaller pad is better for the job.

:bang:

Does any one have any constrictive comments?

No experience, but am following this thread as I've wondered exactly the same thing... and christmas is looming! :D

I thought these two comments answered those two questions quite well to be honest.

I read this one to be, that the cheaper varieties are not quite as accurate as the more expensive ones.

And this one sums up quite nicely that an A5 tablet would be OK for photo-editing.
Size is relative. A5 / A6 size are fine for photo editing. Too big and you will be moving all over the tablet to make changes.

I don't use my tablet all the time, but when I do do a reasonable amount of photo editing, cutting and trimming is easy on my A6 Wacom tablet. It is 7+years old, and still going strong.

Yup. It's the second in the thread - the first of which gave some advice and said you didn't need much space and that I'd avoid Aiptek. That leaves you with Wacom realistically. I'd say the small is too small, which leaves you with the medium. Hence the google. :p

What, like a boa?

I use the Wacom Intuos 3 A5 wide.

I also use a 28" widescreen monitor. Anything bigger than that tablet and your arm soon gets tired. In the software you can set the limits of movement so that after a few minutes you instictively know where to move your hand too. The later Intuos 4 series have slightly better resolution but are pretty much the same.

As for budget I got mine off the bay for about £150 brand new in a box.

The only downside is that if you forget and leave the sylus on the pad you'll spend 10 minutes wondering why your mouse has gone bonkers before you click to what it is :D

Are they worth the money then yep, but you have to be prepared to spend a little time relearning how you control your pc, you may even find that you mouse gets less use in every day use of your pc.

Faster more accurate and more instinctive when using photo software, they are worth their weight in my opinion.

If you can stretch you can go bluetooth version and be wireless.

Now that sounds like a great idea, I am forever getting caught up in the cable to mine. (but I find it more comfortable to have the tablet in the hand/lap than on the table)

I have found and sourced a great price on the wireless one so I think thats the way I'm going to go !
