I decided to get my camera out this morning and have look around the garden for afew insects and to FINALLY get some use out of my new sigma 105mm. Got everything out of my bag, connected the lens and flashgun, turned on the camera but a soon as i powered up the flashgun my camera started to make a strange buzzing noise which wouldnt stop (it was coming from the camera body NOT the flashgun)??

All i could do was to turn off the flashgun and the camera??

I powered up the camera & flash again and everything seemed fine BUT when i checked through the shots on my card, the pic below had been taken during the error.

The camera/flash didnt fire during the buzzing???? I had the camera on my neck strap and it was facing the ground, so if any shot was taken it would have been a shot of the floor.

Where the hell has this pic come from and what is it????????????

Simple = Aliens.

Did you experience time loss? You could have been abducted :|

Sounds like you tripped the self timer perhaps and it fired off when you weren't looking... :suspect:

Don't know what the pic is though... ;)

:p

Unfortunately it IS the lens. It's the Sony's powerful AF motor stripping the Sigma's plastic gears that you can hear. The same thing happened to mine last year (And my Sigma 24-70 in February) and I had to send it to Sigma for repair. I take it yours is still under warranty?

Yeah i've heard of this happening before. But it only started once i powered up the flash?

If it's working fine just now, count yourself lucky and keep and ear/eye on it.

I only read about stripping the sigma gears AFTER i bought this lens, AND it was secondhand and i presume its now out of the warrenty period :shake:

If this is happening, what would it cost to get it repaired?? GOD i wish i'd have bought new now!!!

Sorry, rereading my reply makes it sound a bit like scaremongering, but this is the only thing I can think of that would make that noise. When I sent my 24-70 for repair I was informed that it was a grey import and I would have to pay around £80 (Can't find the letter so can't confirm exact amount).
