What to buy dilemma

OK it was my 50th recently and I have saved up over the years, and now time to treat myself, but I'm not sure which way to go.

I have two choices, both which cost the same amount (within a few pounds) . I want the kit for athletics shooting and general togging. I current have a EOS 30D with EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS and EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS. I find the 30D VERY noisy at ISO 400 +

Which to get:

A) EOS 7D with grip and EF 300 f/2.8 IS

b) EOS 1D mk IV and 24-70 f/2.8

As said these two are the same price, but I would get some back if I bought the 1D as I'd sell the EF-S 17-55
 
The 300 f2.8 is an awesome lens - I'm hankering for one myself, and with the 70-200 you already have make a great set up on a 7D.

Unless you need all the weather protection of the 1D, I'd go for the 7D and the class glass.

But man, I'd love to have that dilemma :lol:

Difficult choice. I have both the 300mm and the 1DIV and before I had a 7D and a Sigma 300mm f2.8.

I would say that the biggest difference in quality was from upgrading the 300mm and not the 7D so I would suggest getting the 300mm 2.8. It is a terrific lens and you will not regret it.

I use it for birds (by itself, with the 1.4x or 2x TC's and with both stacked). I also use it for macros with the Jessops tubes. I used it for portraits and for taking photos at my best friend's wedding.

It is as sharp at 2.8 as it is at 5.6 and it is the only lens I tried that can do that.
 
If a 30D has too much noise at ISO 800 maybe FF would be the way to go?
 
I haven't looked back since getting my 5D mkII, Full frame makes such a difference over the APS-C Sensors!!
 
Thanks for the advice so far guys.

FF and 5D are no no's as the frame rate is just too low for what I shoot.
 
ah i see, that 8 frames a second is quite quick i'll give it that lol

1D mkIV is an APS-H isnt it... what size is that??? is it bigger than APS-C???

APS-H is a 1.3 crop and the 1D is 10 fps

APS-C is 1.6 crop
