Hi all,

Presently using a 5D Mk1 and four or five EF lenses etc, I've around £650 spare, not sure if i should buy another Canon body, something like a 1D Mk11 or Mk11N etc, or possibly sell my 5D Mk1 body and aim for a used 5D Mk2 etc....?

I shoot mainly landscape, but don't mind having a spare body for a bit of motorcycle photography, Knockhill race circuit is not that far from me.


Decisions decisions decisions........?

Ditto. Go back to the circuit with the kit you have, find out what reach you need etc etc. Perhaps downsizing to a APS-H sensor will help you with reach, or if you go for an APS-C, you will have a massive massive range of lenses to play with. Consider a 7D perhaps?
 
APS-H in a sensor 1.3x cropped and the APS-C is 1.6x?

Basically if you have a 100mm lens it will effectively give you 130mm reach on a APS-H and 160mm on a APS-C.

I think in sports and wildlife a lot of people find the extra reach useful.
 
You won't get a 7D for £650. It will mean selling the 5D1. Not really an exchange I'd want to make. 7D plus 5D1, yes, but not instead.

I'm also not convinced of any other crop body alongside the 5D1. The main reason to get a 7D would be to get access to its focus system which is significantly more versatile than the xxxD, xxD or 5Dx systems (which apart from 50D and 60D are a backwards step from the 5D)

Me? I'd either save more to get a 7D alongside the 5D1 or if you find yourself running into the lower ISO/lower resolution limits of the 5D1, swap it for a 5D2.
 
17-40 is a great lens IMHO.
