What to do with new lens?

I just purchased a 24-70L from jessops that i think is pretty soft, i really need to try it more but what are my options if it is a bad copy so to speak?

I purchased it on the 30th december, would they take it back and exchange or what would they say?

Any feedback would be great, even better someone in the Aberdeen area willing to test it for me

Get some proper tests done asap, the longer you leave the more likely they are to not entertain taking it back.

Thats why im going to take it back tomorrow i think to be on the safe side and keep it under the 14 days.

Unfortunatley ive just formatted my pc so have no shots on it just now and its getting late, i may do a few tests again before going back with it, got a day off again tomorrow so why not.

24-70L on a 5DmkII ! There shouldn't be any doubt about it being sharp, you should be able to cut your fingers on the pics they're so sharp Unless you are completely inept with a camera (not likely) or you are a world class, pedantic pixel peeper then it has to be out of whack. If they have another in store (they wont :thumbsdown: its Jessops) it should be easy to find out. Good Luck.

BTW how did the shots compare with your 24-105 ? did you do a comparison ?

I had a 24-70 L and Tbh it wasn't nowhere near as sharp as you would expect.

Iv heard of quite a few people who have said theirs are soft.

It is so difficult to comment on the quality of someone else's lens without seeing examples complete with exif data.
There are several reasons why an image may appear soft ranging from camera shake to the need for micro adjustment.

As has been pointed out here that body/lens combo is a potentially brilliant piece of kit, but with the time factor being against you and the fact that you may lack the time to micro adjust, then a visit to the store may be your best bet.
There is nothing worse than having spent so much time and money on kit you have no confidence in it.

I hear what your saying, i think its down to operator error to be honest as i have managed a sharp shot or 2.

I also have manually micro adjusted the lens and i have also purchased and used the focal MA program and that is spot on too. Its not an issue of ma i believe.

Ill put up with it and see how i get on, i need to use it more and learn how to use it better.
